Sterilizing bottles

How many people sterilized their bottles, for how long, and how did you do it? I registered for one of the microwave sterilizers, and my sister (who has 2 children) said it is a waste. She said that she didn't sterilize for very long, and when she did, she just boiled the bottles in a pot on the stove. Any advice?

Re: Sterilizing bottles

I use a pot, to me it just seems easier..I also was told the sterilizers were a waste

I also didn't bother with a bottle warmer, I just heat water in the micro in a cup then add the bottle to it

I had the microwave sterilzer and I used it in the beginning for my pumping supplies mostly and it did make things easier. But now I just sterilize bottles in the dishwasher.

I have the Avent steam sterilizer. I use it everyday and once a week I boil the bottle just to get in the little nooks and crannies.

I serilized before I used them. Now, I just wash them in soapy hot water after she has a bottle.

Re: Sterilizing bottles

I got the microwave sterilizer too and returned it. I sterilized everything before I used it on the stove. After each feeding I wash with hot soapy water and sterilize in a pot every week or two (for the first few months) now I do it once in a while.

ETA: I boil about 10 minutes or so.

I sterilize his bottles everyday. After he's done with his bottle I wash it in hot water and soap and then put it in the sterilizer.

I boil everything before the first use, and then everything gets washed in the dishwasher, which my doctor said gets hot enough to sterilize so we don't do anything more than that.

Re: Sterilizing bottles

I also had the 4 minute microave sterilizer and we used it everyday until he was around 3 months old. We recently got a new dishwasher so now I use that to sterilize. I sterilize after evry use (especially now that he throws the bottles all over the place Chat Icon ).

I got a bottle warmer at my shower however we NEVER used it. It was much easier to thrw the bottles int he microwave for a few seconds (I just shook them up really good after so there was no heat spots)
