Still napping 2x per day..yay or nay?

Ryan is 16 months old and still takes 2 naps a day. Our day goes like this:

7am awake drink milk on couch, watch Sesame Street
9:00am breakfast
10:15ish snack
10:30-11:30/12:00 nap
12:15/12:30 lunch
2:00pm snack
3:30pm snack
4:00-5:30/6:00 nap
6:30pm dinner
7:45pm bath
8:00pm bed

For those of you that remember, Ryan was never a napper. I fought long and hard to get 2 decent naps out of him a day. He used to only nap 20 minutes MAX.

He never complains or cries when put down for a nap now. And there are sporadic occasions where the nap with only last 30 minutes, but it's not that often.

So at what point do I need to get him down to 1 nap a day and how does one go about doing so?

DS is also 16 months old and is schedule is nearly identical!

DS is definitely not ready for one nap. he absolutely needs them or he gets hysterical.

Re: Still napping 2x per day..yay or nay?

DD's morning nap started to get shorter and shorter. Some days she would just sing in her crib. When I decided to try to get her to one nap a day she was around 14 or 15 months. She was waking up around 7:30-8 and her morning nap was starting around 9:30 and lasted 1-1.5 hours. Her afternoon nap started around 1 or 1:30 and was about 3 hours but that one started getting shorter too. I took this as a cue to go down to 1 nap. I started by making our mornings bright and active and outside whenever possible. Especially at what would have been nap time. I had to make her lunch really really early, like 11 or 11:30 in the beginning or she would fall asleep in the high chair. Her nap would start by about noon. Slowly over a few weeks her nap time was 1pm and it was a 2-3 hour nap.

In the beginning if she didn't have a good 12 hours at night I'd give her the morning nap but most days we went without it.

I'm a huge fan of the Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child book and followed their tips on how to handle the disappearance of the morning nap.

My DS took 2 naps up until about 20 months. Now at almost 24 months he takes one long nap. Somedays he still takes a 2nd nap but that is on rare occasion.

Ryan is nearly 20 months and he takes a second nap depending on his first - either way, goes down into his crib for resting.

7AMish lately - Wake
12/12:30-2-2:30 - Nap
5:30ish - 2nd nap for an hour or so
8:30PM Bed
