still working on my registry: Do I need a bottle sanitizer?

Did you boil the bottles/ microwave w/ a santitizer or just use your dishwasher?

Re: still working on my registry: Do I need a bottle sanitizer?

You know, I was a freak and sterilized bottles in the microwave sterilizer for ONE YEAR with my older DD! Second DD...around 1 month. Chat Icon This time, I probably won't use it at all--just boil before first use. Plus, I have a dishwasher that does the trick.

I would say it's NOT a necessity--unless you're an overly obsessed nut case like I was!!!

i used the playtex bottles so i did not need the sanitizer, just used bottle liners. but for the nipples i put them right into the dishwasher, so if you have a dishwasher no need for anything extra. you will have enough contraptions around your house once the baby comesChat Icon congrats and good luck!Chat Icon

Re: still working on my registry: Do I need a bottle sanitizer?

I liked the table top steam sanitizer. I personally don't like putting the infant stuff in the dishwasher...but that is mainly b/c I do not trust DH to not throw full on chunks of food in with his plates.....Chat Icon

I have a microvae sterilizer and I love it. I've been doing it for 5 months now. I didn't want to put the baby's things in the dish washer with the greassy stuff.

My DH likes to put the bottles and accessories into the dishwasher, and then use the steam sterilizer afterward. We also like it for sterilizing the pacifiers.

Necessary? Probably not... Chat Icon

Re: still working on my registry: Do I need a bottle sanitizer?

Even with dirty, greasy pots and pans in the dishwasher, the dishwasher will more than sterilize any bottles that are in there.

Also, keep in mind that there is no such thing as "sterile" bottles. The second you take them out of the dishwasher or sterilizer, they are no longer sterile. Once air touches them, they aren't sterile, so I figure, why spend that much extra time, money, and energy for zero benefit?

Re: still working on my registry: Do I need a bottle sanitizer?

I boiled them for probably close to a yr, then moved to the dishwasher. I never used a sanitizer, but maybe that is more convenient...not sure, sorry.

Not necessary but some people find it more convenient. You can also just boil what you want to sterilize and it works just as well.
