Stolen from Parenting--- Picky re: clothing?
They were discussing over there if they are/arent picky over what their children wear... I was kinda surprised about the answers such as not wanting their child to wear clothes with animals on it and such... and it just got me thinking...
Are you picky with your own clothes? How do you think you would dress your child everyday? Would you let them pick out their own clothing?
I ask this bc Im a nanny for a 4 yr old... When I first began watching her, we would argue over her clothing choices bc I absolutely could not stand her being mismatched... but as time progressed, ive seem to let it go a bit more... if its totally outrageous outfit then its a no go, but if its semi-doable, i'll leave it alone... I do see some kids in her class dressed to the 9's at times... there is no way those children picked out their own clothes

As far as I go, it all depends on my mood. Lately I've been on a dress kick...but I have a few standard go-to outfits for work if I just don't feel like thinking about what to wear. For my life outside of work, it varies a lot, again depending on my mood. I can do jeans and a t-shirt or something really bohemian and hippie or something rockabilly.
Kids...I never really notice what they're wearing. My mom used to always let me pick my own clothes, and seeing as how Punky Brewster was my idol...yeah, I had some funky outfits as a kid. I think as long as the kid is warm enough and you're not bringing them to any kind of event, just let kids be creative with their outfits. I think it's adorable if I see a kid in the supermarket that's got a tutu around her regular clothes, or a kid with a cape, or something like that.

I am very picky; I wear classic, modern styles (ATL, BR, Gap).
I don't think I'd be picky about their clothes. They are BABIES. They puke and poop on everything anyway in the beginning, I am not gonna get myself worked up over what they wear when I care more about what I wear

until you are a mom and you are covered in that puke and poop LOL As for me, I wear whatever is comfy, fits me, and matches... I was never particular about my clothes as in only buying certain brands

I was always told I LOOKED like Punky Brewster and I also think I dressed like her!
I don't have a lot of nice dress clothes for work because i'm a physical therapist and **used to** be in the trenches so to speak with the patients so I never wore good clothes. Now i'm an admin so I think I have to up my game.
Outside work it depends on my mood if i'm going dressy or bummy
I'm not having kids so I don't think about how they would be dressed.

but for babies, i think they should be dressed "babyish" KWIM? any parent will say how fast they grow up so why rush it? i dont totally get that and i've heard that quite a few times

kids are kids right? they def love wearing clothes that have their fav characters on them dont they? they dont know brands or polos or whatever else

I'm picky for myself.
As far as kids - I spend a lot of time figuring out what to buy for my friend's babies. If I had to dress one of my own it would be 10x worse.

I'm not really picky about my own clothes - I only am picky about fit. I wear classic pieces, not trendy.
For our future kids - they are going to dress like babies. Animals, cartoon characters, whatever - they will be dressd like babies and children - not young adults.

I don't know if I am picky...
I wear what fits me well and flatters my figure best. Not neccesarily the most IN style, although I try to be fashionable--if a trend makes me looks like a cow it ain't happening
I will make sure my kids look cute and wear cool stuff. I don't think I will be picky to the point of not putting something on them if it was a gift or something--that's rude IMO

I don't really wear trendy clothes. I think that's mostly because I feel I wouldn't pull it off well. I wear pretty classic stuff so when I shop, I have that mindset.

what does that mean?
i work in an area where kids grow up too fast and they dress like adults way too quickly. Example, Applebottom jeans for 5 year olds. Super tight and low cut shirts for 13 year olds. It drives me insane. I think that kids need to dress their age- thats the most important thing to me. And i just LOVE overalls- i think they're adorable but nobody over 6 should wear them, lol

as long as your appropriately covered and you don't look insane fine. I mean there is a clear distinction between "play dress" and dressing for school. I do accept some creativity and choice but I wouldn't send a kid in a tutu and a bikini top and mom's high heels.

When my little cousin was younger (she is 6 now) she must have been about 3 or 4....DH & I were babysitting and I had given her a bunch of pink princess dresses....she had it on in the house and then we had to run a few errands so I asked her to change and she said she wanted to keep the princess dress on so DH & I walked around town with her in a princess dress. People said she looked adorable...I didn't care that she looked like a weirdo....lol

Dude, I can't be bothered to follow fashion with my own clothes. My kids would be in jeans and t-shirts all the time if I had them.
I think I could foresee liking certain colors depending on coloring, and I'm not a girly-girl so frillies and stuff would be out. But other than that, I don't think I'd get so specific on what images were ok on their clothes.
