What is the craziest piece of advice you've received since becoming a parent?

Re: Stolen from PG - The craziest advice

no crazy advice, but I've had a lot of BAD advice.

my MIL thought the baby was 'cold' and had to be more covered-up (it was 72 degrees in the room, and he was in a footie pj with a little jacket and wrapped in a receiving blanket.)

she put his hat on and wrapped him in a super thick fleece blanket (so he looked like a fluffy sphere). DH had to politely grab him and unwrap him so he could breathe again.

Re: Stolen from PG - The craziest advice

My MIL put a pair of dirty red underwear in my sons crib because she said it would make him feel better and ward off "evil" so he would sleep better. BTW, she didn't ask me before she put them there, I found them when I was changing the sheets. Someone is coo-coo for cocoa puffs. Chat Icon

OMG, my MIL does this ALL the time. I live in freakin' Texas and it is still 80+ here but everytime he sneezes, she insists he is cold. Chat Icon Chat Icon

My MIL did the same thing to my son!!! It was almost 90 degrees - we were having a heat wave - and she had my son wrapped in a blanket. The poor kid was beet red when I got to him.

To give the baby bourbon for teething.

I know it's an old fashioned thing & maybe it does work but I'm thinking I'll have enough of a hard time keeping them for drinking..

That & telling me that my day old baby doesn't like breast milk & I should opt for formula because he likes it more.Chat Icon
