Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"

A place that is a bar and happens to serve food . . . umm, not for any length of time. I did bring DD to such an establishment when she was 6 months old so a bunch of people that had not yet actually seen her could do so (it was the middle of the day, and a billiard tournament was taking place). We were there for 15 minutes TOPS, and she has never returned, nor has she been in any other place that might resemble that one!

A place that is a restaurant and has a bar . . . umm, I don't think there is a restaurant without a bar area, so yes, DD goes there because DH & I like to go out to eat.

Yes, we have taken our children to a "bar and grill". We do not sit AT the bar by any means, we have a table. They have high chairs, AND childrens menus, so why not?

Would I ever go "to a bar" to DRINK and bring my children? Good lord NO! But a place thats merely a restaurant with a bar, of course.

There is a HUGE difference between a BAR and a restaurant that has a bar in it.

Why? Oh, is this one of the things that "offends"????

Bottles break, the dance floor gets slippery & fights break out. I don't need my kids in a place where it's ok for adults to be azzholes.

that's my feeling.

I would bring DD to a place like Pippins in Bay Ridge or a bar/grill type place--if they have a children's section on the menu, then I assume children are welcomed. I wouldn't, however, bring her to a "bar only" bar or a lounge or a pick up spot.

ITA and wouldn't think twice going somewhere with tables and good food. I would even bring DD to Chat Icon Hooters during the day if there wasn't a popular game playing but that is a whole other thread.

I do not think that children belong in bars that are meant mainly for hanging out especially late at night. However, places like, Croxley Ales, Donovans, ect are ok at the appropriate times. I wouldn't go there with her on a Saturday at 10pm but she is sleeping at that time anyway.

A bar in the evening with friends for drinks, no way.

That same bar, that serves food during the day for lunch/early dinner, yes.

I don't think I've ever seen a baby/toddler at a bar at night.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"

My kids have been in bars that serve food but not at night. We were in vacation in Myrtle Beach and brought our babysitter-she stayed at the condo we rented with our kids and we went out. At the end of the night my DH wanted wings so we stopped at this bar-sort of like a Hooters. It was about Midnight. There was a girl sitting with two firends and her about 16 month old baby in this bar-eating. There was smoking and an extremely loud band. I was ****** and kept saying to my DH can you believe this? Who takes their baby out at MIDNIGHT to sit in a smoke filled bar with a blasting band.

For lunch or dinner, yes.

At night, when it's more drinking and less eating, no.

I have done this and it was a great experience. The bar was in the front with tables in the back for an early dinner.

We took DD to a bar when she was 3 months old. It was during the day while there was a street festival going on in my hometown in NC.

I was pretty self-conscious about it, but REALLY wanted a beer from this place (it had all imported beers on draft from Belgium, Scotland, Ireland, etc.). It was smoke free and not crowded. TOTALLY selfish of me and totally worth it Chat Icon

I have brought my DD to bar & grill type places countless times. We go around lunch or dinner time and not late enough for the bar crowd.

DD has been to a real bar once. (Bar meaning they only serve alcohol and food that they cook/heat up behind the bar - no kitchen) It was during the day, after the 4th of July parade, during our vacation back home.

I would not bring her at night, nor would I ever want to.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"

We took my first DD to an Irish Pub at 9 pm at night to meet up with my husband's aunt(she was working and wanted to show off my DD to her coworkers). They had a live band playing. My DD loved it and the band played a song for her. She was around 9 months. We stayed for maybe 45 minutes and had a drink then left. I would do it again but not that late unless it was to meet up with someone working again.

The dirty looks we were getting made me chuckle thoughChat Icon

I thought of you this weekend because DH and I brought DS for his first lunch at Hooters. I think he liked it! Chat Icon Chat Icon

To answer the question, DS has an early bedtime so he's never out past dinnertime anyway, but for lunch, sure why not? He's been before and will likely be again. Mama likes a frosty pint with her burger. Chat Icon

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"

We have taken DD to a sports bar/restaurant in my dad's neighborhood for Sunday brunch, specifically because it's loud enough to drown out any noise she makes. But at that time of day, the bar is usually empty anyway and she's usually not the only child in the place.

It never crossed my mind before but the next time I want wings we're all going to Pippins since it's just a block away. Chat Icon

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"

DS has been to a few bars...not sitting at the bar, but definitely at a table so we can eat.
If they have highchairs and it's a daytime thing, I see no issue with it.
I think it's more offensive to take your DC to a really nice restaurant and run the risk of ruining other's dinners.
