Stop & Shop RANT
Is it just me or have the prices gotten ridiculous here?
They will give you a freebie here and there but in turn, basic items like peanut butter are marked up close to $4.00.
Even "store brand" is no longer a steal.
Then, not only that, but when you get out to the car and check your receipt, you notice that you were overcharged for items that were supposed to be on sale.
I feel like this happens every time I go in there.
I have noticed that more and more I do better at Target and just do a shop here once or twice a month to fill in things like fresh veggies and meats.
Anyone else? And also recommend your grocery store.
I am thinking it may be worthwhile to drive elsewhere even though S&S is so close.
I wish they would build a Trader Joe's by me already!!!!!
P.S. I do go back in and get my $$$ back which is such a PITA because it happens so much.

I rarely go anywhere other than Stop and Shop. But I only use the scanit gun. I control what bag my groceries go in. I get to see what price they are ringing up as. My wait in line time is much lower. If I did not have a scan it option I would go to Waldbaums.

I went to S&S last night for my weekly shopping trip and I noticed a couple of things I purchased was slightly higher than my usual Waldbaums but I did save on a few thungs. It's hit or miss! Peanut butter e is ridiculously over priced at all grocery stores. I usually buy that at BJ's

Thanks ladies.
Yeah, I was annoyed last night when I wrote this since I just got back, but I am sure other stores are probably similar.
I have yet to try the scan it gun.
I keep forgetting about it, but that's a great idea.

I totally agree! I find that I purchase more for less $$. I love matching MQ with the Store Coupons they send out in the flyer, makes me feel like I'm saving LOTS!!

i have been getting better deals at BJ's for items such as milk, eggs, peanut butter, bread, cold cuts and such. For everyday other items, like one type of yogurt, or things i dont watn to buy in bulk, ieither go to target or stop and shop- both extremely local.

For the exact same order, Shoprite is anywhere from 15-25% cheaper BEFORE coupons than S & S. I never go in there anymore. I moved from a town w/ a Shoprite, paid a fortune for S & S for a few years and now, so glad they built a Shoprite near me

Me too! There's a coupon in the circular for 99 cent eggs this week!

We have a king kullen waldbaums, bjs, best yet, and a stop and shop.
I shop the sales at best yet
Buy basics at target
Buy meats etc at bjs
Small things I need to get like sugar free jelly I get from stop and shop.
I wish we had a shop rite or path mark

Me too. I hate S&S more and more lately, but I can no longer shop without scan it. So they got me.
I am ok with paying a bit more for that convienence.
I can no longer put my groceries on a belt and get them rung up and then rebag them.
No way. Never again.
But their prices are high, yes.
And their produce SUCKSSSSS so bad.

I don't shop at grocery stores anymore for the most part. Their prices are INSANE! I shop at Target for most things, and Trader Joe's for stuff I can't find at Target.

I pretty much only go to Fairway and Trader Joes now. I think the prices are the best and the quality is better. If I had a whole foods near me, I'd probably pop in there sometimes as well. Once in awhile I'll go to Western beef if I am in the area and not doing a big shopping. Sometimes we will make the drive to The Meat House for meats, but it is far from us and it is pricey. I just don't like waldbaums, stop and shop, king kullen because of selection or high prices.

Best yet for produce (or i go to produce store on wantagh ave) or the meat they have on sale.
Otherwise, i buy everything at target.
we are getting a walmart food store on the turnpike i heard too.

FYI: if an item is scanned wrong and the price on the shelf is lower stop and shop will give you the item for free. Most stores just give you the difference but if you ask they will give it to you free. Every time I went to stop and shop I was getting items free from their scanning policy. That store is so overpriced now I never go there!!!
