Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
I think last summer a woman was killed and someone stole her baby and she was targeted b/c of the stork on her lawn.
But if you feel comfortable, go for it.

Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
I've heard this also from a few people. I wouldn't do it, you just never know. I hate to be paranoid about things like that but there are crazy people out there and it's not worth it.
You'll get to send out the birth announcement cards to all your family and friends and that's who matters anyway, not strangers who drive past your house.

Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
hmmmmm, I might not do it only because there are 4 houses on my block, who would see it anyway?
You make a good point though.
Maybe you could put a big pink or blue bow on your door?

Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
I am not doing it. Too many crazies out there and I am on a busy road. If my street was more secluded I might have wanted one...

I never even thought about this. I live in a private community so I may still do it, I'll see what DH thinks....I really wanted one!

I wanted one because they let you keep the little plaque with the baby's name and date on it but now that i've heard that i'd be afraid.

Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
we are in an apt now, so its not an option. however, if we are in a house by then, we will not have one. i am just not a fan of them.

Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
I never thought about people wanting to kidnapp the baby. What a sick world we live in. I think I'll take my chances though. I really want one, and I see them all over my neighborhood.

Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
I wouldn't do it...My neighborhood is so close-knit (er, maybe the right word is NOSEY), that a stork will not be necessary.... Having 90% of our neighbors retired is the ultimate security system....they even tell me when my dog barks at the recycle men...

Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
I think it is soo ridiuclous not to have one on your lawn because of kidnapping.
Don't leave your child alone in the house and you will be fine. Kidding aside. I had one and wouldn't even think twice about not having it again.
It is just silly IMO.

Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
Ive had one in the past..and would this time around..BUT I live at the end of a dead end and I dont really see the point.
The way I look at it is that there are a lot more good people out there than bad...

Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
Not doing it. I just don't like the idea of advertising our business to everyone. Anyone who needs to know will know we had the baby.
The world is just a crazy place nowadays!

Re: Stork or birth announcement on lawn
If you want to let you neighbors know that the baby is born, I would buy either pink or blue balloons and hang them outside for a few days. Your neighbors will know, but a stranger won't know what event they are for.

We did and didn't have a problem.
I had two with no problem. It was actually nice when people up the block whom I never met, stopped as they drove by to congratulate us.
