Strange Poll: Do you know how to spit?

No, I don't mean that in a dirty way!

I've had this really nasty cold and I tried to cough stuff out.

All I wind up doing is choking and gagging and sometimes making things much worse.

DH tried to teach me how to spit, but I can't seem to grasp the concept.

So I'm wondering, especially for the ladies...do you know how to spit?

It seems it's one of these things that boys are taught to do, but girls aren't.

I do... My brother taught me growing up... It's really gross but oh so necessary when you have a bad cold.

My mom on the otherhand can't spit to save her life. She ends up dribbling all over herself...

yes...but I don't do it because I think its disgusting for anyone to do it!!

Are we talking tastefully spitting into a hankie or full on hocking up a lugie? It's a true art that must be mastered if you need to get the congestion out in a pretty manner!

No I don't, and I'm glad because think it's gross.

I had one friend who had no compunction whatsoever of spitting out her car window.

are you talking about hocking up a lugie? if so...I can only do it when I am sick and it's necessary.

Nope. Can't spit.

I can't even spit my gum out with enough force. Just as well, b/c I think gum should be placed in the garbage, not spit on the ground for someone to step on!

No, I honestly cant. It would help me tremendously when I'm sick (like I am now) but I end up having to gag into a napkin or something. Sorry for the TMI

I didn't until I became an electrician. I know that sounds weird, but sometimes things float into your mouth, or hits your face, the only thing to do is spit, or swallow. There is no way in heck that I am swallowing some of the crap that flies around on job sites. Therefore, out of necessity, I learned how to spit without making a mess of myself.

ETA I make sure NO ONE is looking when I do it, because it is really gross watching someone else do it.

Yes.... I've had a cold on and off since Christmas. The only way to deal with the congestion is cough up the phlegm. It's gross, but that's the only time I spit. I never do it in the street

lol, yes, unfortunately. i'm a big runner and i find that it's just necessary on a really long run. gross and tmi. sorry.

Just reading this post, I gagged. I'm no spitter, and I have a hard time spitting when I *have* to. Thank God DH doesn't do it regularly.

My brother, OTOH, could hit a target 30 feet away. Blech!!! Blech!! Blech!!!

I cannot hock-a-loogie to save me life, seriously!!!!

DH laughs whenever I have a cold and try to get the phlegm out. I have to bend over with my head down to get gravity on my side while DH cracks up!!!!!!

yes and no. if i have to get rid of snots, i'll do it. but half the time i get the stringy thing and can't seem to get it out of my mouth.
