Stranger anxiety and 1st birthday parties
11m old DS has bad stranger anxiety right now. He used to be pretty social but all of a sudden, he only wants me and DH and my mom. He cries whenever others try to hold him or we are out of sight.
Did anyone else's DC have stranger anxiety around their first birthday?
I'm afraid he will be upset at his first birthday party next month.

Totally typical. My DS won't let me leave him alone at parties around unfamiliar people! That is a good time!

So he has a good time as long as you are with him, right?
I just don't want DS to be unhappy at his own party. I know everyone is going to want to hold him.

I would start letting other people holding him but with you right there! That way he gets more comfie.

Re: Stranger anxiety and 1st birthday parties
MINE DID!
It was pretty horrible. He wanted either me, my DH or my FIL. No one else. I couldn't even put him down in front of me. He had to be on me (he just started walking a week prior) the whole time.
You know those kids where the parents could plop them down, walk around and the kids don't even notice? Yeah not my child! I would go to put him down and he would purposely pick up his feet/legs so i couldn't put him down, while grasping on to my arms. It's a good thing he's light!
and when people got in his face... game over.

Re: Stranger anxiety and 1st birthday parties
Both my sons screamed the first hour of their party
It was just way too many people too fast, all up in their faces
They got over it after a while thankfully!
