stray cat... or not? And he's not fixed

There is a beautiful male cat in my neighborhood. He drives my cat nutty when he sits near my windows at night. He is not fixed. Of course it went through my mind to try to catch him, get him fixed and then release him. But.... what if he is someone's cat and they just chose not to get him fixed? Do I have a right to do a catch and release (which I have never done anyhow)?
He has a shortened tail... seems like he had surgery at some point. He stays in the garage at my house that I rent in. He is slowly becoming used to me (hung around while I put my kayak on my car and was about 10 feet away. He used to run away. Makes me think he is someone's pet. I don't know.

Can you ask whomever lives at that address about the cat? I would say if he has no collar and isn't chipped, he's likely not anyone's pet. Beautiful cat

I don't know where he lives, but he hangs around my house all the time. I have been here a year, but have only been seeing him for a few months. Before him there was a huge tabby cat taking residence in the garage. It's like this cat took the spot over.

He is beautiful. It sounds like he was someone's cat and got lost (or dumped Chat Icon). Are you thinking about taking him in at all?

sorry misunderstood, thought it was a garage you rent, that you didnt live there

I would assume it's not anyone's cat if he is around so often, no collar and not fixed

I would fix him if that was what I wanted to do

My cat had a tough time in her previous home with a large mancoon male cat bullying her (my cat is super small). Plus a toddler poking at her. The owners had a choice to rehome her or medicate her to cope because she was so anxious.. so they blessed me with her instead of medicating her. she is so happy now.

I just have this feeling that she deserves to be a one cat lady. Plus I rent... it's in my rental agreement that I only have one cat. If I can go about finding a cage to try to catch him, I would then try to see if he has a chip while he is at the vet, if he is friendly and go from there. I know some rescues might help me with such a beauty if he seems to be easily placed due to his temperament. I can't tell how friendly he is... although he is warming up to me slowly. He is well fed... can't tell if that is from a home or mousing.

My position on unneutered cats is if they are outside, they should be fixed...whether they belong to someone or not. it is the responsible thing to do. We have several cats around my coop complex that do not belong to anyone in particular, however some residents give them food, frontline and get them fixed.

When we did it, Save a Pet loaned us one for a few days.

Also, check out the

Long Island Cat Project.

They have some contacts to borrow/rent traps and where to get low cost spay/neuter certificates.

You can contact L.I.C.K.S. Long Island Cat Solution for low cost spaying.
They may even have a trap for you to borrow. They are very nice. I took my aunt's cat there to be fixed. They are on Sunrise Hwy in Freeport. I went in April and paid $70.00. Good Luck. That cat is gorgeous.

Isn't he pretty? He hasn't been around. I reached out to save a pet so I can do the catch, fix him and release. But I am not sure where he went. He normally tortures my cat at night outside the window. Hopefully is he safe somewhere.
