Have you ever known someone who was under a great deal of stress during their pregnancy?
My husband and I were hoping to TTC this past Sept. Unfortunately, my mom was just diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. We were just dealing with the loss of my MIL (6 months ago) and the loss of a pet, whom we loved dearly. I am beyond sad and worried all the time.
I am not getting any younger, I'm 35. I know stress during pregnancy is not good. I know I need time to deal with everything that is going on; however, the thought of my mom not being here to know my children breaks my heart.
So my question... have you known anyone who has dealt with a stressful situation during pregnancy. Were there any complications? Was the baby healthy?
I was actually talking to my doc about this recently and he said that stress to a certain degree is a good thing! It releases some hormone in us that aides in the baby's lung development. I didnt fully understand all his medical jargin so thats what i got outta the convo but it sounded good to me!
Severe stress may be different. But i always think of all the 9-11 babies that were born healthy and look what some of those Mommies went through!
I hope everything works out and you and your family will be in my prayers!!
i was reading an article recently (forget where) that stated that, contrary to popular belief, babies in utero only get an EXTREMELY small fraction of the stress hormones that pass through mom's blood.
i had a pretty stressful pregnancy last time around, both from my own sickness (severe morning sickness and then preterm contractions that landed me on bedrest for 7 weeks) and from events in my family (my brother had a serious heart attack).
my labor was quick and uncomplicated and i gave birth to a healthy baby boy who is now an active 13 month old.
so in my case, stress didn't have any consequences, at least none that i know of.
I remember reading an article a while back on pregnant women during wars having very healthy children. I believe there was a study that compared women who weren't able to eat well and had lots of stress (watching familiy members die) and regular women in healthy environments.
