Stripping of membranes?

Whose dr. will do this and whose wont?

I NEED to go into labor before March 2 to attempt a VBAC, and I want to ask my dr. to do this at my next appt (I will be 36 1/2 weeks), but she did tell me she would not induce or augment labor. Is this considered a form of induction/augmentation.

From what I've heard, it does not always work - usually only if your body is really ready, which I'm hoping I am. I just really dont want a c/s.

Re: Stripping of membranes?

My doctor did it at 8 days past my due date. I lost my mucous plug the next two days and on the 11th day my water broke.

Re: Stripping of membranes?

I had a membrane strip with Noah at (I think) around 6 days overdue, I went to 11 days overdue (with induction starting at 9 days overdue. I think in hospital I had another membrane strip at 9 days also...

It didn't really hurt, just a bit of pressure and it didn't work for me, but it does work for lots of ladies!

If you are planning a vbac, they will not do this......They did this to me with Nicole, and I ended up going into labor but my body just wasnt ready, which led me to a C section.

It will not work unless you are already somewhat effaced and dialated. My midwife stripped my membranes at 37 weeks, 5 days. I was 80% effaced and 2cm. This was my 2nd baby and also a VBAC.

My water broke 2 days later, and labor began immediately.

Good luck!
Sending you lots of VBAC vibes~~~~~
