Strong willed 9 1/2 month old

DD has always been an easy going baby. Recently, she has been throwing "temper tantrums" anytime we try to move her. For example when she is in the carseat and we go to put her in the stroller she arches her back and screams and cries. Then we move her back later on to the carseat and she does the same thing! It is almost like she hates to be put anywhere! It is so hard to buckle her in when she arches her back and tries to throw herself out of it.

Any suggestions, and is this just a stage to assert her independance or do I have a strong willed child on my hands Chat Icon

DS is like that too and still is at 13 months.

DH and I always joke that he has mastered the art of passive resistance. So when we try to pick him up, his whole body goes limp and turns into dead weight and then he puts his arms straight up so you can't grab under them!Chat Icon

he throws "tantrums" when you take anything away from him or don't give him what he wants when he wants it and refuses to be put anywhere.

I chalk it up to him being strong-willed.

I think for you... it's just a phase. Chat Icon

My ds seems to be a very strong willed kid. He has been doing some of these things since he was 5 months old. He would always do it when going in the car seat. It lasted a while. Then faded a bit, but didn't disappear. But now at 11 months, he's starting to do it again.

I think for the most part, it's just a phase they go through testing their boundaries. Chat Icon Although for me, i doubt it's just a phase. Chat Icon

Ok, so I am not alone!!! Any suggestions? I just try to stay consistent, distract her, etc....I am afraid as she gets stronger it will be harder to put her anywhere!Chat Icon

Honestly we ignore him and do what we got to do. We don't react. Or we try to distract him, but for the most part we ignore.

Same here. We also try to just ignore it or distract him.
