Stubborn fever - I'm exhausted and need to vent!
So as I posted yesterday - my DD's fever landed us in the ER b/c of a febrile convulsion. Her temp at that point was 103.7. Today it was basically in the 102 range despite Motrin and Tylonol. It drops periodically into the 99.5-99.8, but doesn't stay there - it goes back up. No other symptoms, 2 negative flu tests, no bacterial infection according to blood tests. I just put her back down to sleep b/c she woke up in a horrible sweat and her clothes were soaked. We changed the sheets, her clothes, her diaper and put her back down with no sleep sack, just a blanket that's in her crib that she holds onto. Gave her a luke warm bath before bed as advised, but she was so soaked from the sweat you'd think we didn't dry her off.
I'm so exhausted and frustrated. I cannot believe a high fever can last this long with no other symptoms and without an illness to give it a reason. Anyone ever go through this? I hear that there are fevers like this going around and they last days. I've hardly slept b/c I'm so worried she'll have another seizure. I"m trying to keep her "calm" during the day. At her age she wants to walk around and all, but I just want her to relax until this passes and let her body get through this.

Re: Stubborn fever - I'm exhausted and need to vent!
We had a fever for more than 4 days about a month and a half ago. On day 5 it finally broke. I was giving Motrin and then after 1 hour passed, Tylenol. After 6 hours, I repeated the Motrin-tylenol combo according to the doctor's instructions. It is scary. The fever would drop to 99 or so after he got the Tylenol, but just before the 6 hour mark, it would creep back up again.
It was frustrating in a way, because like your DD, my DS was acting normally otherwise - eating pretty well, playing normally when the fever wasn't too high. All I can say is hang in there - it will drop eventually, I think. If she still has it after 4 days, I would take her in again to see the ped.

We went through this a few months ago when he had his seizures. I understand the concern and frustration. I hate when there are no answers for why things happen.

Re: Stubborn fever - I'm exhausted and need to vent!
My DS had something similar a few months ago that they said was a bad virus. All his bloodwork. flu tests etc. was normal. His fever stayed around the 103-104 mark for 9 days. I just kept alternating tylenol/motrin and lukewarm baths. Hope she feels better
ETA: I don't know how you are dressing her, but I work in the ER and all the time we see kids with fevers over 102 and they are in 2 or 3 layers of clothes and a blanket....try not to overdress her, it is really important with a fever.
