Student teacher starts tomorrow! Eeek!
I'm starting with a student teacher tomorrow.
I had one years ago, and it was a DISASTER! I mean -it was a horrible experience and I hated going to work every day because of her.
This one seems to have a decent head on her shoulders (and she just sent me a text to see what she can bring me from Starbucks tomorrow morning - bonus points!!!) and is eager to start with the kids. I teach middle school language.
Does anyone have any tips to make it an awesome experience for her, me AND the students?

Re: Student teacher starts tomorrow! Eeek!
I did my student teaching pretty recently (4 years ago). What I remember helped me was being able to observe first. I did two placements and at my first placement the teacher kind of pushed me into teaching very quickly. The second placement the teacher let me observe a little longer and let me teach when I felt more comfortable.
Don't forget to show her/tell her any "unwritten" rules of the school (where the bathroom is, casual Fridays, cranky teachers to try and avoid)!
I hope this student teacher goes better than your last!

Re: Student teacher starts tomorrow! Eeek!
I usually have at least one student teacher per year - I really try to make them feel comfortable and treat them as peers. I invite them to observe, ask as many questions as possible and talk them through the lesson progression and planning and evaluate how the lesson went after I teach it. I want them to start thinking the way I think about how a lesson develops (since I turn my class over to them and am responsible for the results!) I avail all of my resources to them and require that when they do teach, that they show me all materials and plans a day before and then we discuss the lesson right after. I'm pretty hands on and open and it's been successful. I am critical of myself which helps them feel more comfy for when I eventually will (constructively) criticize them. Good luck! I love having student teachers :)
