Stupid question: Can you make a home look brand new?

This is going to sound crazy, but I love the look of the brand new homes that are being built these days. Obviously, we don't have anywhere near the kind of money to build a house, but we are doing several things to a house built in the 80's. We are adding recessed lighting, doing total wallpaper removal, primer and painting, but what is it that makes a home look new? And can you get that new look with just that in your home?

Is it colors used in the painting, windows, ceiling height or something else?

I know it is a dumb question, but just wondering.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think there is a lot you can do to change the look of a room or a house. I am usually pretty clueless about these kinds of things, but if you watch any of those home shows, I feel like they really show you how to change the look of a room or house. Good luck with everything.

I know for me right now, there are things that I don't like about our bathroom yet we aren't in a position right now to change the entire thing. So, we are removing wallpaper and replacing the mirror and lights over the sink, changing the faucet. We may also refinish the vanity. I think things like that can make a big difference.

I think it’s the following;

Outside:
New Siding/Trim
Masonry Work (stairs, driveway)
New Roof
New front door
New Windows
New Fixtures

Inside:
Fresh Paint
New Molding
New Doors
Wood Floors/Tile
High Ceilings
New Kitchen w/Island
New Bath w/whirl pool tube
New Appliances
New Fixtures

Open floor plan, less walls separating the den, kitchen and living room.

Go look at a model home or search the web for them and you’ll find most have the above.
