Successful on low carb diet? Come in!

So I had a baby 6 weeks ago and am 12 pounds from PP weight (plus I would like to lose 10 on top of that). Getting back into working out this week but was looking to jump start my loss (have a wedding saturday).

Anyone successful on low carb? I was thinking of just cutting out breads, rice, pasta Chat Icon Chat Icon

I know there is more to it than that (but figure I will start here)...any pointers on what I can and cannot have?

Re: Successful on low carb diet? Come in!

when I first first first started and had success I lost like 6 pounds in a week from limiting carbs plus counting calories. I'm trying to jump back on that bandwagon and jumped in with both feet to myfitnesspal.com. I am doing protein shakes made with unsweetened almond milk, and I just had an apple. Def eating every 3 to 4 hours helps you not over eat. Good luck and congrats on the baby!!

I was never on a specific diet but I limited carbs from my daily intake. I would eat them at most once per day. Just cutting back on carbs without totally cutting them out helped me lose the rest of the baby weight and then 10 lbs extra. I did this combining with exercise.

Re: Successful on low carb diet? Come in!

it's really the only thing that has ever worked for me

and now that I am diabetic (carbs turn to sugar)

I take very little insulin and watch my carbs- it's makes it much easier for me to manage

I gain weight very quick when I don't watch my carbs b/c I have to take extra insulin to cover them

To keep a hold on carbs, I read that limiting to 150 grams a day is a good start. It sounds like a lot but it's harder than you think.

I still eat breads/crackers but I'll limit them. Open face sandwiches, burgers without the bun etc. I pretty much stay away from pasta and rice but I will still eat fries, I just make sure my serving is smaller than my fist. Chat Icon

Re: Successful on low carb diet? Come in!

I've lost 15 lbs doing the south beach diet since July, and I lost 30 lbs (that I kept off all this time) about 7 years ago.

I think the thing about South Beach is that it really curbs what you can eat when you are out, which is good. For me, eating out was when I had issues. I cook healthy at home but always mess up when I eat out. So now I eat salads when out, or an appetizer that is pure protein.

I am on phase 2 now, so I eat 1 serving a day of carbs. It is either light wheat bread, or sweet potato. It's hard at first, but once you see results, it is pretty easy to maintain.
