Sudden onset of Reflux???
Anyone else getting this?
Anything I can do about it?
I stop eating well before bedtime and STILL I've been woken up the last couple nights with bad reflux.
I won't get into the details, because it's way TMI, but it's not pleasant.

Re: Sudden onset of Reflux???
Im sorry to say the same thing happened to me and I lived on TUMS. It helped, a llittle. I ate them like candy. It was that way for me for the last few months of my pregnancy. Good luck, try Tums...good source of calcium too!!

Re: Sudden onset of Reflux???
I just bumped a thread for you (assuming reflux and heartburn are the same thing?)
Also, Maalox tablets help me a lot- I like the consistency of them more than Tums, they are smoother and I feel like they help almost immediately.

Re: Sudden onset of Reflux???
It's prob happening because the baby is pushing up on your stomach and causing the acid to back up.
Try to elevate your bed or pillows on an incline try to sleep so gravity helps you out.
Tums didn't do a thing for me, mylanta liquid, i take the supreme cherry works well and lets me get some rest. Zantac and pepcid are also okay to take during pg, but ask your dr first.
Dairy, citrus, acidity foods like coffee, tomatoes, tea, and greasy foods will make it worse.
Feel better, I know your pain, i have relflux when i am not pg, pg just makes it worse.

Re: Sudden onset of Reflux???
Drink LOTS of water inbetween meals. Besides the baby pushing up, the hormones you have during pregnancy effect the opening to the stomach, and it does not close as tightly as it normally does, I agree to sleep in an elevated position. Don't load up on tums, too much because they can cause kidney stones if you have too many. (not to scare you, just be aware it can happen ) And did I mention, drink water?!!!!

Re: Sudden onset of Reflux???
I had reflux in the 3rd trimester. Tums did NOTHING for me. I drank milk, ovaltine and ICE CREAM I also had to sleep propped up with pillows. Makes me wonder if this has anything to do with one of my boys having reflux

Re: Sudden onset of Reflux???
I get it when I eat or drink anything citrus. So no lemon or orange flavoring. Also cranberry juice does it for me too. I would try and write down what you eat and see if their is something common and then try to elminate it.

I'm actually allergic to Zantac.
I was prescribed it about 15 years ago when it wasn't an OTC drug.
1% of the population has issues with their eye sight and dizziness on Zantac and guess what? I was in that 1%!!!

I actually slept okay last night! I think more out of complete exhaustion than anything.
I'm going to be MUCH more careful with my diet going forward.
Thanks for asking!!

You are very welcome
If you normally don't suffer from reflux, as soon as that baby is born you won't have reflux at all, it's like an immediate remedy.
Let me know if you need anything, I have done, taken it all

Re: Sudden onset of Reflux???
I had heartburn before i was PG, so now it's even worse. I live on the Tums Smoothies and if I take 2 right before bed I'm usually good through the night.

Re: Sudden onset of Reflux???
Tums by the bed is my saving grace.
Sleeping is so fun these days, if I lay on my left side I am burping the whole night, if I am laying on my right I have burning in my throat
