Sudden upper back pain? Update.
I was just sitting on the couch with DH watching tv when I suddenly felt this sharp pain in my upper back by my shoulder blades. It makes it painful to take deep breaths and only stops hurting when I lay down on my side and stretch out. I also feel the pain in my side in the rib cage area.
Has anyone ever experienced this? It was completely sudden and I don't think I pulled anything.

Sudden upper back pain?
I get this often, I went through countless x-rays and they couldn't find anything that serious. It's like between my shoulder blades but more towards the right side and radiates through to my ribs as well. Next step is a breast reduction

Never.
I just looked it up. My pain is on the left side and it sounds like gallbladder pain is on the right.

I had my gallbladder removed... and I've been getting bad shoulder and upper back pain the last month or two
Gallbladder pain is in the right... I went to the dr cause I was worried about appendix on right, then out came the gallbladder with a bad infection that radiated to my back.

Never.
I just looked it up. My pain is on the left side and it sounds like gallbladder pain is on the right.
I would go to the doc, initially the thought my gall bladder but nope. I still have no answers.

Tried to sleep through the pain but it kept me up all night. DH is taking me to the ER. It's very painful to breathe. Please if you know me IRL don't say anything on FB. I don't want to worry family if its nothing. Thanks.

Sudden upper back pain? Update.
Sounds like gallbladder to me too. I had that pain for years and was misdiagnosed for years. Hope you feel better!

I hope this is not the case for you but I had similar symptoms when I had a spontaneous pneumothorax (collapsed lung).

Thanks everyone! They tested for everything and couldn't find anything more than a strain. They gave me some pain meds and they seem to be working so far. Thank god. They were talking about possible blood clots and collapsed lung and heart problems but it was all ruled out!
I can't say enough good things about Stonybrook. This was the 2nd time I've been to the ER there and everyone I dealt with was so nice and compassionate.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings.
Just reminded me of my mom, she had something similar happen.. was in doctors, er, etc. and then one day realized it was her extra doses of broccoli!

its ok, you didnt hurt my feelings... going to the ER for gas is sort of funny, but its still really really painful
DH and my co-worker went for pains like that, too, and it was gas. I get these a LOT. I find that stretching and massaging the area helps to get rid of it, but it sounds like the EXACT same symptoms. Left shoulder blade, sharp pains, and painful breathing that abates when I stretch or lay out. My pain never lasts more than about 1/2 hour- an hour.

Sudden upper back pain? Update.
It sounds like a rib subluxation. Do you have a chiropractor? I would have yours check, especially since you seemed to rule everything else out. FM if you have a question, I am one :)
