Re: Suffolk Co. LOCAL Elections - does anyone have a link to a site w/who's running?
State Senate showdown 2008This November's State Senate elections could mark a major tilt in the political balance in Albany. Democrats control the governor's office and have a huge presence in the State Assembly while the Republicans have only a narrow advantage in the Senate. With an aging GOP majority, changing demographics in some districts and a determined push by the Democrats, the spotlight is on a handful of key Senate races that will determine whether the Republicans retain their one bastion of power. We've invited campaign watchers to weigh in on the races at our State Senate blog, Capitol Gains, and we encourage our readers to join the conversation.
Here are the seats to watch so far (updated regularly):
On Long Island:
Senate District 3 Incumbent: Caesar Trunzo, R-Brentwood. At 82, he has staved off questions of retirement and vowed to seek reelection. Brookhaven Supervisor Brian Foley is the leading challenger now that Jimmy Dahroug has pulled out to help consolidate the Democratic campaign.
Senate District 7 Incumbent: Craig Johnson, D-Port Washington. In a major upset for a Republican stronghold, Johnson won a special election last year, and he is Long Island's only Democratic state senator. Republican Barbara C. Donno is the main challenger.
Other races:
Senate District 11 Incumbent: Frank Padavan, R-Bellerose: The 18-term senator has sparred publicly over various policy issues with rival James Genarro, a Democratic City Council member from Fresh Meadows.
Senate District 15 Incumbent: Serphin Maltese, R-Middle Village. Social shifts threaten to unseat the 10-term incumbent. Democrats are hoping to capitalize on the working-class district's growing diversity, especially its burgeoning immigrant communities. City Council member Joseph Addabo and local attorney Albert Baldeo are gunning for the Democratic nomination.
Senate District 35 Incumbent: Andrea Stewart-Cousins, D-Yonkers. Democrats outnumber Republicans in the district but it has flipped before, with Stewart-Cousins's loss to Republican Nicholas Spanos in 2004, followed by her win in 2006. John Murtagh is this year's Republican challenger.
Senate District 48 Incumbent: Darrel Aubertine, D-Cape Vincent. Earlier this year, Aubertine won a hotly contested special election despite a Republican majority in his district. Local attorney David Renzi will try to reclaim the seat for the GOP.
Senate District 56 Incumbent: Joseph Robach, R-Rochester. Though he won by a large majority in 2006, Robach faces a tough re-election challenge in an area where Republicans control less than 30 percent of the electorate. Richard Dollinger is the Democratic challenger.
Senate District 61 GOP Sen. Mary Lou Rath is retiring. Republican enrollment is slightly higher than Democratic enrollment in the district. Candidates include Joe Mesi and Daniel Ward for the Democrats, as well as Michael Ranzenhofer for the Republicans

Re: Suffolk Co. LOCAL Elections - does anyone have a link to a site w/who's running?
No problem.
Here are a few more links:
State Supreme Court
11th District
And I understand your frustration - just scanning the internet - everything is about Pres. election - nothing local, even Newsday barely has touched and prob won't until the day before the election when they do their spread. Heaven forbid this information be made public and on an easier access to the public!

Re: Suffolk Co. LOCAL Elections - does anyone have a link to a site w/who's running?
All I have to say is that Caesar Trunzo has sent more mail to my house in the past couple of months than I have gotten total from living here for 2 years! He has wiped out an entire forest with the amount of mail I get from him!!!!
