Suffolk plant nurseries - list 'em
Can we make a list of nurseries/town it's in/your impression of it for me to check out, price out or avoid altogether?
I'll start.
Hitherbrook Nursery - St. James. Selection ok but
Ok, that's all I've got so far.

I like Rosewood Gardens in Medford on Horseblock Road.
Starkey Bros. is awesome, just too far for me.

Prianti Farms, Dix Hills - great selection of plants, flowers, veggie and herbs (based on last years season)...competetive prices.
Fort Hill Nursery, Huntington - great selection of organic products, plants & flowers; they only had cold weather veggies/herbs out when we went last weekend. Helpful staff. I can give an update next week...competetive prices.
Main Street Nursery, Huntington - great selection of plants, flowers and herbs; veggies are sparse (based on previous years' seasons). Helpful staff, cute gift and flower shop indoors...a little pricier than the previous 2.

Re: Suffolk plant nurseries - list 'em
these are the ones I like the best
schmidts in dix hills (bagatelle rd) - great selection great prices (look for coupon in pennysaver/newspaper)
Johnson's in east northport (cedar rd) - same as above
paul's in greenlawn (pulaski rd) - a bit smaller and a bit pricier, but still good
fort hill in huntington (e main st) smaller and a bit pricier, but they are really helpful and have a lot of people to help - parking sucks
white post farms in melville (old country road) has a great fundraiser for plants and flats
prianti in dix hills (deer park ave) flats are smaller and pricier, but mulch and firewood is great - they tend to be generous too

Dix Hills - A.H. Schmitt Family Farms
Just went there over the weekend. I think they had pretty good prices (i'm still new to this), the selection of annuals was huge, they sell flats of 48 and the plants are very well taken care of. They have perennials, but it's not a huge selection like their annuals, good prices, nicely taken care of plants.
Holtsville - Cheap Sam's
I went there about a month ago. Huge selection of Perennials, prices I think were a little higher then I have been seeing, but if you are looking for "different/unique" kind of plants, shrubs or trees, you can find some of them there. Plants were in pretty good condition.
Coram - Garden Dept.
I was there about a month ago. This place is huge. Huge selection of annuals and perennials. Very well taken care of plants. Prices were less then Cheap Sam's. The staff was there to help you pick out plants. We were told that we could bring back pictures of the area's we wanted to plant in and they would help us pick our plants to go with our house and our needs. We are def. going back there for all our perennials. They deliver also.

This is the nursery we primarily use. Great staff! Friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful! As Erica said, they're a bit pricey, but I've become numb to it thanks to Hicks. (I used to always go to Hicks for flowers, etc. until I stepped into Paul's.)

Olsen's Nursery on Lake Ave in Nesconset
Cheap Sam's had some good stuff.
We went someplace else on Sound Ave out in Riverhead but I can't remember the name of the place.
