suggestions/help re: penalty/reward type chart...

was thinking of implementing some sort of tracking system thing for DH's 2 boys.

marking down when they do something wrong so we can help them get out of bad habits (fighting with each other, forgetting to clean up, etc).
anyone do this at home? what do you do and is there a reward/punishment? do you mark it on a chart?
any suggestions appreciated

ETA: they are 6 and 8

How old are they?

DS is 4. Last year I would use a good manners chart and just give him stickers when I saw him doing something good. I think positive reimbursement works better for MOST kids.

There was a time when he wasn't listening to me at all and I started a 3 X policy - 3 X's and he lost something for the day. I did not do stickers for this b/c stickers are good. This was just a piece of paper and pen.

If you google, "free behavior charts" you should be able to come up with something that works for you. They have daily chore charts and such. You can always take what they have and modify it in excel to fit your needs better.

Usually a 'caught being good' chart works well. Make a chart for each kid that lists their chores or other good behavior (clean up, make bed, set table, do homework, did not fight my brother/sister, etc..)

For each activity that is completed for that day they get a sticker. Once they get a predetermined amount of stickers they get a reward (such as movie night, game time, special dessert - not a new toy usually). The amount of stickers depends on the kid. Some kids have a hard time earning 3 stickers while others can earn 10 without an issue.

Pointing out the 'bad' or negative behavior doesn't get the desired effect, in my opinion/experience.
