Summer Desert that is dairy free?
My SIL asked me to bring a desert to a BBQ that she's having tomorrow....
It has to be dairy free because my mom has Crohn's...
I have plenty of recipes that I could bake, but that doesn't feel "summery" to me.
There will already be a fruit salad there.

Re: Summer Desert that is dairy free?
I believe cool whip is dairy free if you want to go with the angel food cake and berries.
Also many sorbets are dairy free. Jello fruit tarts from the bakery.
ETA: the fruit tarts have pudding in them so I take that back.

Re: Summer Desert that is dairy free?
Isn't there some kind of recipe with jello, broken up angel food cake and cool whip? You kind of make it like a trifle??

Re: Summer Desert that is dairy free?
1 Package Angel Food Cake
1 Can Crushed Pineapple in its juice
1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
Mix all together
Put in Bundt pan
Bake at 350 for about 35 minutes
ENJOY!!!!!
Soo light and delicious and not that bad for you!
If you want, you can bake it in a 13X9 inch pan instead to cut into squares.

Re: Summer Desert that is dairy free?
Thanks guys. Cool whip is actually not safe for her... there is something in it that she can't eat. I'd have to look at the ingredients to remember what it is, but I know it's not safe.
I just wish there were something else. I always bring angel food cake with berries....
I will probably end up making blueberry muffins...
I was just hoping for something different, you know?

Re: Summer Desert that is dairy free?
What do you think about this guys?
Pineapple Citrus Sorbet!!!
Totally different from the "usual" and my mom would LOVE it!!
I don't have a food processor though, do you think I could puree the pineapple in the blender?
INGREDIENTS (Nutrition) 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 cups orange juice 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple 2 teaspoons freshly grated orange zest Add to Recipe Box My folders: Add to Shopping List Add a Personal Note
DIRECTIONS In a medium saucepan, bring water and sugar to a simmer over medium high heat until sugar is dissolved. In a food processor, puree pineapple with its juice until smooth. Transfer to a metal bowl, and stir in lemon juice, orange juice, and orange zest. Freeze until slightly firm, but not frozen. Process mixture again in the food processor or beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Transfer to a freezer container and freeze until firm, about 2 hours.

i just cut them in quarters and slather them in a butter/brown sugar/cinnamon mixture and throw em on hte grill. you can add vanilla ice crea, for those who can eat dairy, but even alone they are great!
