Slowly potty training, it's mainly my fault bc I'm sooo lazy about it and she's def ready

She's eating everything, but there are days like today where she'll refuse something she'll normally eat and I have to give her pasta (which she literally would eat every day if I let her)

Sleeping, just this week, she started waking earlier than normalChat Icon She used to go down at 6:30 and wake up around 7:30 and is now waking at around 10 to 7, and napping for 45 mins a day which she was in the past as well (she was never a good napper)

She's in a two year old separation program

She has a ton of words and getting more and more every day but not many sentences but slowly getting there...I know what she wants before she says it and I catch myself sometimes and need to do it more so she can use her words

She has major meltdowns when she doesn't get what she wants, she'll throw things but if you ignore it it'll stop as quickly as it started...we're working on time outs..

Potty training- working on that I take her to the bathroon every 15 minutes on the weekends

she eats rice or pasta, broccoli some chicken

she is in a daycare/pre-school program 5 days a week. She transitioned well she started at 1

she has many words/sentences she was an early talker

she throws tantrums Liza's post was really helpful I have been trying some of her suggestions and they seem to be helping.
At school they say she behaves.

DS will be 2 on 11/18

Potty training- going to start in the next month or so. He is showing a lot of readiness signs, but we're a bit crazy with the new baby so I want to wait til things even out a bit.

He eats pretty much everything we do...has his days though where he eats nothing, and days where he eats way more than me!

Sleeps from about 9:30pm - 10am

Not in pre-school - shooting for September '11. We do go to an organized pre-school like playgroup that my town puts on (1 day per week) but I participate with him.

Hundreds of words, strings them all together and uses simple sentences

His behavior is good, but is very stubborn and strong-willed. No real tantrums *yet* (knock wood) but definitely has his meltdown moments.

DS is a June 2008 baby:

Are you Potty Training? He does pee pee...won't attempt pooping! He prefers to stand....we have a mini urinal for him in the bathroom!! But he needs to be asked. Won't volunteer to go.....and that usually leads a bit of a struggle.

What are they eating? Most dinners are a meat & fruit. Eats whole grain pastas, brown rice & LOVES quinoa & whole wheat cous cous!! Won;t eat a sandwich.....opens up grilled cheese & eats it inside out!! Hates eating veggies so I still give him pureed veggie so he gets the nutrients at least. But otherwise he will eat cut up canned (in juice) peaches, bananas, blueberries, strawberries as his standards!

How are they sleeping/napping? Naps...ugh......if DH or I are home we have to rock him to sleep or lay down with him!! At the sitter he naps in his sleeping bag on the floor...usually just lays down & goes to sleep! If my IL's are with him, he only sleeps on the couch. Naps vary from 45 minutes to 2hours!
Bedtime is breeze.....a little snuggle time & he goes in on his own awake & STTN 10 hours or so.

In pre-school? We tried 2 days a week of day care (it was out of needing it not wanting to do it) and I pulled him out....it wasn't good for him. We do a 1 day a week 1 hour Mommy & Me at the local pre school. Next summer when he is 3 I will enroll him there.

How may word..what type of speech?
Lost count of words.. He is fully conversational. His pronunciation is great.

Tantrums? Behavior? Very few. Mild mannered. But stubborn!! See potty training questionChat Icon

What are they eating? Everything except most veggies. Chat Icon

How are they sleeping/napping? Sleep about 10-11 hours at night, and 1 nap 2-2.5 hours.

In pre-school? no

How may word..what type of speech?
About 15 actual words, a bunch of wannabe words lol, and he imitates sounds, such as animal sounds and vroom vroom for cars. Chat Icon

Tantrums? Behavior? OMG can we say terrible 2's??? He's like Jeckyll and Hyde...if he doesn't get his way, watch out! And if he's tired or hungry, he's miserable. The tantrums got worse when DD was born. Chat Icon

Re: Summer/Fall 08 Wiinter 09 Moms-what is your toddler doing?

Summer 2008 (August)

Are you Potty Training?
Um no. Don't even see why I should try. She's not ready and is content in her wet diapers.

What are they eating?
Pretty much everything. She loves broccoli and salmon still.

How are they sleeping/napping?
1 nap about 2hours
Sleep by 10pm and mostly through the night but we still have middle of the night wake ups. She goes back to bed after a little comforting that its all ok. In her own toddler bed.

In pre-school?
Montessori

How may word..what type of speech?
A lot in my eyes but not doing any sentences yet. Still not enough for a conversation. Behind her classmates but gets her point across just fine.

Tantrums? Behavior?
A few tantrums if she's overly tired or overly excited. I'd say for the most part she's still an angel. Daycare loves her, she takes direction very well, knows timeout, observes then mimics behavior. She's now saying 'sorry' and kiss/hug for any accidental hitting, which I like. Behavior-wise, she's a riot. Loves to run, jump, giggle and play under sheets. I love this age right now... imagine that.. love the Toddler Two!Chat Icon

I use timeout often and quickly. If I even get the SENSE that she's acting up or being bratty she goes to time out. I rarely say it more than once. Its never a threat, its a question that demands an answer "Do you want time out" if she continues the behavior or gives me the look etc.. she goes to time out. End of story. She knows this. Even puts me in timeout! haha

Are you Potty Training?
Not training but he will sometimes go on the potty but he's still all about the diaper.
What are they eating?
He eats most things but is a tad on the picky side but compared to Miranda he's not picky at all.
How are they sleeping/napping?
He takes on 2-2.5 hour nap a day. He sleeps about 11 hours a night. Straight through most of the time
In pre-school?
He will start preschool next year, end of August.
How may word..what type of speech?
Too many words to count. Working toward full sentences.
Tantrums? Behavior?
He's definitely strong willed but doesn't have total tantrums. I've learned from my mistakes with Miranda and I am a bit more stern with him and follow through.

All in all he's a joy. A handful at times but I adore him. Miranda is in full day K so Hudson and I get lots of one on one time and I'm really enjoying it.

How are they sleeping/napping? 1 nap a day at noon or 1ish. Sleeps ok.

In pre-school? Mommy & Me once a week

How may word..what type of speech? His expressive speech is delayed. Had him evaluated once and he didn't qualify. Will do it again in 2 months. His comprehension is wonderful though.

Tantrums? Behavior? He has his fresh moments but overall no he's pretty sweet and listens well.

Re: Summer/Fall 08 Wiinter 09 Moms-what is your toddler doing?

Feb 09 here so DS (20 months) might be on the younger side of this but I thought I'd answer anyway:

Are you Potty Training? No, not even close to thinking about trying.

What are they eating? Pretty much everything, but somedays nothing. He's picky depending on the day and how hungry he is. Right now our issue is more behavior at the table, i.e. not flipping over his plate, not dropping his food on the floor to show us he's done, etc.

How are they sleeping/napping? He goes to sleep at 7:30, wakes up anytime between 5:30 and 6:00...sometimes he'll sleep till 6:30 but it's rare, he's always always been an early riser. He naps once a day around 12:30 for about 2 hours, sometimes less.

In pre-school? Not yet but we go to a more structured version of Mommy & Me called Stepping Stones. They do preschool type activities and transitions but we're there with them. It's twice a week.

How may word..what type of speech? None, he receives EI for speech and OT for sensory input issues. He's at about a 6 month delay in both areas. It's extremely challenging and frustrating, I cry a lot, but we're all working on it to help him.

Tantrums? Behavior? Yes, lots of tantrums due to his non verbal status...leads to non stop frustration and tantrums all day. Another thing we work on. No straight up behavior issues as of yet...the most defiant thing he does is continuing to try to climb on the kitchen table. His receptive language isn't strong enough to understand a time out per se, so I still just do a lot of redirection.

Re: Summer/Fall 08 Wiinter 09 Moms-what is your toddler doing?

November 2008

Are you Potty Training? Not officially, but because we are in the throes of PTing her older sister, Eliza has shown alot of interest.

What are they eating? Dear Lord- EVERYTHING. Unlike her older sister, Eliza is a great eater and will eat just about everything. She's a solid bunny too- she weighs the same as her 3 year old sister!

How are they sleeping/napping? She was a great sleeper until the past month or so. Every night (it seems) she wakes up crying. Most nights she falls beck to sleep within 15 minutes without us going in, some nights DH has to go in to "talk to her". She naps at least once a day, sometimes twice. If it's one naps it's usually 2 hours.

In pre-school? She missed the cut-off for the preschool we've chosen. She'll go into a "pre-threes" class next fall.

How may word..what type of speech?
Tantrums? Behavior? Eliza is literaly hitting her language explosion over the past month (which might explain the waking at night?Chat Icon) She went from very short 1-2 word combos in July to full sentences now. There have been times I thought it was Maddie talking to me and I realized it's Eliza!

She doesn't have temper tantrums often, but she is a stubborn little mule. One thing she does ALL the time that my first didn't is "go boneless" whenever I try to get her to do something. As soon as I make a move to physically move her she drops to the floor. She doesn't cry, just drops and lays there.Chat Icon Her newest thing is whiningChat Icon while saying, "I don't WAAANNNAAA do <insert undesired object or action>.

OMGoodness.... I can't believe what a big girl she is.Chat Icon

Not even thinking about PT until hr can communicate a bill better.

He is still a PITA with food. Getting better but not great. He eats like a champ in school, just not here.

He was doing well with sleep but now we are on a 8-4 schedule. Sadly we are used to it. Naps are awesome and a welcome part of the day.

Words, added a few more but maybe up to about 6-7. We start EI 10/25.

Tantrums are wonderful. If we ignore he stops ( most times). He is good out in public unless of course he is wiped out then it can go either way.

He is a big smooch. Kisses out of no where and loves to be with daddy.

Jan 09 here.

Not really. She will go on the potty but she is stubborn about it.

DD eats everything.

She sleeps in her big girl bed all night. She still naps - sometimes 2x a day.

nursery school 2x a week.

Fully conversational.

Behavior is erratic. Tantrums are daily. When she is happy, the world is a sunny happy place but if she is mad...oy!

Timmys birthday is 02/17 /09

We are not potty training but the potty is out for him to sit and get comfortable with it.

He eats everything the only thing he still doesn't like is bananas. He loves milk (thank goodness).

Sleeping is a work in process still. He is in bed my 630-645 and up by 6-7 in the morning. He is in his bed for a nap at 1030 everday and naps for about an hour and half to two hours.
I find just when he is sleeping great he just stopped and regresses so as if now he is waking up in the middle of that night at least 1 time if not 2.

No preschool yet.

He has excellent speech from what the Dr. says full conversational. He knows all of his animals even the uncommon ones and all their sounds. He knows almost all of his colors, the whole alphabet, and counts to 13. I just started shapes last week and I am interested in seeing how it goes. His pronunciation is getting better each day there are still some words though just just mommy and daddy understand.

As for tantrums he has not yet had a full out fall on the floor kicking and screaming tantrum but he does do the very loud crying tantrum. I find that when I ask him if he wants something (toy or snack) he will tell me no and than scream when I put it away because he wants it. These are what a lot of his tantrums are about oh and the all so common telling him he cant have something always warrants a tantrum.

edited to write about pre school.

Re: Summer/Fall 08 Wiinter 09 Moms-what is your toddler doing?

Are you Potty Training?

Yes...some days are good some days are...let's just say a bit messy!

What are they eating?

What we eat. he's never had an issue here. Although, he is getting more picky these days.

How are they sleeping/napping?
Sleeps through the night without a problem since he was a few weeks old. Only time we've ever had problems is when he was teething.

He still naps at least 1.5 hours a day, maybe up to 3.

In pre-school? In daycare since he was 6 months old. The run it like a pre school and he is beginning to recognize numbers and letters at this point. He has known all of his shapes, colors, animals, the Alphabet, can count since he was like 18 months old or even earlier. This i credit to the daycare.

How may word..what type of speech?
He was an early talker. he had several clear, concrete words before he was a year old. he was stringing words together by say 15 or 16 months, 3 to 6 words sentences by 18 months, and fully conversational by 19 or 20 months. Can speak and understand commands in Spanish as taught by his grandparents. Trying to have him converse more in Spanish, if only my hubby would be more consistent...

Tantrums? Behavior? he's a pretty good kid. very loving and considerate. he has the sweetest personality and loves to be the center of attention like his father. he likes to ham it up an pose for pictures in the camera. he walked around at his Birthday party sayiing "I'm the King! It's my Birthday!" Pretty even in temperment. i think his ability to communicate offsets many tantrums in our house. He mostly has tantrums when he is tired or not feeling well. it's how I usually know something is wrong.

With that said, lately he has been hitting, scratching and pulling hair. The other day he ripped the hair out of a little girls head at daycare. We are talking clumps of hair. He seems to like the attention he gets from the response. we are working on it.

Overall a great kid...therefore we are bracing ourselves for the hellion of a child that will make her arrival in January!!!

This is the best age ever!!! He'll be 2 on the 24th!!!

August 08

Potty Training - no. He has no interest in it at all.

Eating - is hit and miss. Breakfast pancakes, bagels, cheerios, fruit, yogurt

Lunch - pizza chicken nuggets, jam sandwich, pasta, fruit

Dinner - just stopped jar food it is a struggle he doesn't like to eat many things

Sleeping and napping wonderfully - sleeps 11 hours at night and 2-2.5 hour nap everyday

No preschool
He is a chatter box - talks all day long. You can even have a phone conversation with him at times :)

Tantrums - some but trying to ignore and not give in. He is overall a great boy and love being around him. He is great with his little brother it is fun to see them interacting.

Re: Summer/Fall 08 Wiinter 09 Moms-what is your toddler doing?

I guess I'll answer!

Are you Potty Training?

Just starting. Got a book with reward stickers and have been reading that to them. Will by potties this weekend.

What are they eating?
Ronan loves his meat and fruits. Declan loves carbs veggies and fruits-seriously this kid will eat anything. Broccoli Rabe, pomegranate seeds etc.

How are they sleeping/napping? Sleep all through the night(6:45-7:30 or so)
1 nap a day about 1.5 hrs

In pre-school?
No...soooo expensive with twins. I found a 1 day program I may enroll them in for Spring. Ronan is also REALLy shy around new people...even kidsChat Icon

How many word..what type of speech? They have around 100-150 words I guess. Very few 2 word sentences(more snack, go night night etc.) They were preemies and twins and boys so that may have something to do with it. I may call EI after their birthday(11-24-08)

Tantrums? Behavior?

Usually very good unless tired or not feeling well. Ronan gets frustrated about not being able to do certain things and will cry. Declan abuses Ronan a bit-steals toys, hits and pulls hair. But it have gotten ALOT better

Overall a great age! So much fun and they understand EVERYTHING I sayChat Icon

Are you Potty Training?
No, I think we're going to wait until after the baby is born and they are adjusted to having a new sibling.

What are they eating?
Pretty much everything. Jonah is allergic to eggs and nuts, so that is a bummer. But they both love pizza. Jonah's a big fan of beans.

How are they sleeping/napping?
They take one 1.5-2 hr nap a day and usually sleep around 12 hours at night - 7:30-7ish.

In pre-school?
No.

How may word..what type of speech?
I haven't counted the words, but they have a lot. They aren't putting words together yet, but talk to me in some kind of language I don't understand.
They've also got their own words for things - like they call each other "Mimi."

Tantrums? Behavior? They are generally very good, but like any other kids have their moments!

Re: Summer/Fall 08 Wiinter 09 Moms-what is your toddler doing?

Dec 08 Mommy

Are you Potty Training?

Kind of - He has no problem doing both # 1 & #2 on the potty. Its just a matter of getting him to stay seated on it. He always wants to get up & play and then sometimes ends up going on the floor, which he thinks is funnyChat Icon We are also working on him telling us he has to go BEFORE instead of after but we know that will take time. At least he is aware of when he goes.

What are they eating?

Just about everything. Veggies are still a struggle sometimes. LOVES rice, pasta, bananas, yogurt & jello.

How are they sleeping/napping?

STTN from about 8pm to 7 am - he has no problems putting himself to sleep. He still uses a pacifier at bed time only. We plan to get rid of it before the end of the year.

He takes 1 nap a day. they are usually between 1.5 - 3 hrs long.

In pre-school?

Started Daycare 3days/wk at 13 months. Now he goes for only 2 days. Hope to go back to 3 days or even FT in January.

How may word..what type of speech?

I lost count on the# of words. He is very verbal. He is starting to have more 3 word sentences and repeats EVERYTHING!!! He is also starting to try and sing the ABCs and other songs on his own. He says please & thank you 95% of the time with out being prompted. He has GREAT Manners!!!Chat Icon

Tantrums? Behavior?

He is an angel at daycare but has his moments at home. He seems to be very quiet and observant at daycare and then tries to bring home the bad behavior he observes at daycare. Overall he is well behaved more than most kids his age but he definitely has his moments.

Re: Summer/Fall 08 Wiinter 09 Moms-what is your toddler doing?

Are you Potty Training? - No

What are they eating? she eats everything but surprisingly isnt a fan of peanut butter. (Who doesnt like peanut butter?)

How are they sleeping/napping?
In pre-school? Naps almost everyday for about 2 hours. Goes to bed at 830 pm and sleeps until about 7. I really cant complain, DD has always been a great napper.

How may word..what type of speech? She has been speaking full sentences for a while and just started to use the word "the" in a sentence.

Tantrums? Behavior? Overall, DD is a well behaved child. I always make sure to set ground rules before an event and she does good with that. For ex - you can walk in the store, but if you dont hold my hand, i have to pick you up" or "you can't bring that toy into the store with us" and I will say those things 2 or 3 times beforehand.

The main issue I have , which isnt too, too bad is dressing her and changing her. She acts like a maniac and never sits still. I dread it.

Re: Summer/Fall 08 Wiinter 09 Moms-what is your toddler doing?

DS is 2- just turned 2 on 10/13.

Are you Potty Training?

Yes and no. DS has urinated on the potty a few times (he asked for it) but we don't push it. He lets us know when he goes to the bathroom in his diaper, though.

What are they eating?
DS eats just about anything and everything. He has always been a very good eater. His favorite is anything pasta with veggies. He actually loves veggies and asks for them often.

How are they sleeping/napping?

Napping- ugh. He refuses to nap at home now. It is a real struggle. Usually we have to drive somewhere to get him to nap. He does nap at daycare, though. He'll nap anywhere from 1-2 hours. He still really does need the nap or he becomes beastly around 5 PM. He goes to bed on his own each night and is great with that. He is still in a crib but will be transitioning to a toddler bed soon. We wanted to give him a few months of adjusting to life with Julian.

In pre-school?

He goes to daycare. He just started going 5 days a week. He loves it and has learned so much there. It actually amazes me the things they have taught him.

How may word..what type of speech?

Aidan's speech is incredible. He started talking really early and is fully conversational. He is speaking in complete sentences and learns so many new words daily.

Tantrums? Behavior?

Aidan is a very good natured kid. However, he also has a temper! He does tantrum when he can't get his way. He is learning that he cannot get everything he wants. He also screams sometimes so we're working on that as well. Overall, he is good and does listen.

They've also got their own words for things - like they call each other "Mimi."
