Summer job question
Hey guys, I am a special education teacher (7years) in a suffolk county school district and I am already thinking about a summer job.
This will probably be the last summer I have without children so I really wanted to try and rack in some cash.
I am certified in Elementary K-6 and Special Education K-12
If you know of any places that would work with these certifications that is good money I would totally appreciate it
Thanks Jess

Re: Summer job question
summer school doesn't pay that much... with your special ed. i would look into working with an agency... they can pay very well. and you can set your own hours and amount of clients you want.

Re: Summer job question
I don't have any other suggestions asside from Summer School. I worked Summer School the past 4 summers and last summer I banked all the money in hopes of getting pregnant this year. I am due in June and definitely not working this summer! I am looking forward to finally having a summer off!

Re: Summer job question
Have you thought about putting in subbing for other districts? I bring in good $ doing that and I feel like I don't ruin my summer because I am not planning and grading.

Camp counselor! I worked in two camps in Suffolk, both of which paid very well. Lost of cash tips. And I got to spend my whole summer in the sun!

ITA!! DH works every summer. He loves it. He's out in the sun and gets to be with children. Go on craigslist and you'll find alot of places looking for counselors. Now is the time to get a job in that field.
Or just call them. I worked in Ivy League in Smithtown (in their teen travel division) and in Laurel Hill in East Setauket. I was referred by a friend and basically walked in and filled out an application. They LOVE hiring teachers.

What about contacting Western Suffolk BOCES...that's who runs our summer school (I did their summer school before i had a teaching job)
Look into NYC too, I don't know the exact specs, but i think you can sub 5 days?
