sunscreen/daycare/pre-school
My DD attends preschool for a full day. I apply sunscreen in the morning before she goes to school & leave a tube for re-application in the afternoon.
Just recently, we got a letter saying they are not allowed apply sunscreen. The teacher of the next class up (where she'll go next year) says she "supervises" with applying their own sunscreen, but won't apply it for them. When they are 4??????
What does your daycare/preschool do?
(Oh - & this center is listed as being able to administer OTC drugs, just not prescriptions. Sunscreen counts, doesn't it?)

Re: sunscreen/daycare/pre-school
Our daycare demanded we bring in for body and face. Strongly urged spray and a face stick. They apply it daily, won't allow children outside w/o

Re: sunscreen/daycare/pre-school
DD only goes to prek for a few hours so I apply it in the AM and shes good. I think its crazy that they would expect a 4 yr old to apply it themselves though.

Re: sunscreen/daycare/pre-school
DS is only 19m, so obviously he's not going to reapply in the afternoon. They do, no questions asked, no form to sign.

Re: sunscreen/daycare/pre-school
Sunscreen counts as OTC medication so as long as you filled out the form, I'd DEMAND they apply it in the afternoon! That's just crazy!

Re: sunscreen/daycare/pre-school
I would absolutely question why they can't. There is no law that they can't. I think its wrong for 4 year olds to be applying it themselves...I mean it says on the bottle to keep out of reach of children.
DD's daycare puts it on them whenever they are going outside, they even supply it.

Re: sunscreen/daycare/pre-school
Well they applied it in the baby room. He is in the toddler room now and I sent it in. They better be applying it.
But, that being said.... I work in a special ed high school and we are not allowed to apply sunscreen on the kids. It's all legal stuff. What if they are allergic.. yadda Yadda. Soooo in the end.. The kids burn...

Re: sunscreen/daycare/pre-school
They asked for it at DS' preschool (special needs). I apply it to before he goes to school but he goes to a FT program so I was glad that they asked for sunscreen. They asked each kid to provide their own sunscreen so we know what is applied on their skin.
I would talk to the director and sign a release for them to apply it.
I am all for protecting children but this is one of those example of PC/liability going too far!

Re: sunscreen/daycare/pre-school
we are asked to apply at home and have a signed permission form for them to apply before they go out.
i do not believe they are allowed out without it. we leave body and face sunscreen there
