Suntan lotion for a 3 month old?
We are heading to the outer banks tomorrow and the doctor said we could use suntan lotion if we needed to. What do you recommend using? Which brand do you think has the least amount of chemicals? Thanks.

my ped said to use the most hypoallergenic stuff we can find. I am thinking of using the Aveeno when the time comes.

Re: Suntan lotion for a 3 month old?
I would call back the pediatrian and ask what they recommend - only because everyone is pretty much told not to use sunblock on an infant under 6 months.
I would feel more comfortable asking the doctors then asking on here (no offense to anyone )

My doc said any kind is fine, but try to get sensitive brands and as long as min 30SPF and no aerosol kinds.
I use Hawaiian tropic Baby faces and tender places.
My dd's had a reaction to Baby Blanket sunblock and coppertone.
I had sunscreen on both my girls around 2 months old.
I've heard blue lizard? is good too.

Everything I've read says no sunscreen for under 6 months so like someone else said, I would ask specifically which brand they think you should use.

We went to Curacao when DS was 3 mo. I insisted on using sun screen since we were taking him in the pool. Our ped recommended Blue Lizard (either baby formula or sensitive skin). It is the easiest on the baby's skin and doesn't contain any of the bad stuff that the others contain.

Re: Suntan lotion for a 3 month old?
I just read somewhere (sorry can't remember where) that the no sunscreen before 6 month rule is being rethought by the AAP. Mainly because some babies are turning up with sunburn. I would put some on, cover DC up as much as possible, but a little on exposed areas wouldn't be so bad I would think.
I would ask my pediatrician what brand.

My doctor said it's ok to use on babies under 6 months (like pp said, they are allowing it now because its better than the baby getting a burn), but he recommended using a natural/organic brand. I use one that the brand Jason puts out for kids.

I am going to try and not use any at all and keep him in the shade but I want to have some with me just in case. Where can I buy Blue Lizard?
I called the advice line for the ped office but they never called me back

My ped told me that the reason why that warning on there is b/c the AAP doesn't want to see children under 6 months of age exposed to sunlight... HOWEVER... with that having been said, my ped said to use my best judgment, and if I want to bring her outside, it IS best to put sunscreen on her. HTH!

That's what my Ped said....she told me it was better than baby getting a burn. But they all say something different, so check with yours and do what you feel comfortable with
