SUPER SHADY - grass growing tips?
We easily have 4 dozen fully grown trees on our property - I LOVE it, so cutting down trees is out of the question, BUT...we noticed our lawn is next to nothing.
We've probably cut the lawn 3 times this entire summer.
There are a LOT of sandy spots & tons of shrooms growing from all the rain we've had. Our IGS have been off - what's the point, right?
Well, the previous homeowner had service with TruGreen. They did an "evaluation" on our lawn & GET THIS...they said we should be watering 45-50 mins daily!
Now...I could care less about weeds - I just would like SOME green on our lawn. What are some tips? The one neighbor said we need a good dethatching & maybe some seed & fertilizer in the spring & fall.
(Background - I grew up upstate on 3.5 acres. The most we got into lawn care was mowing the lawn. )

Re: SUPER SHADY - grass growing tips?
we have one area that is completly shaded, we created a shade garden under the Dogwood tree that is there & we had pretty good luck getting the grass to grow in the rest of the area, its about the only area we don't have weeds or crabgrass.
Here's a link to CCE shade tips
There's also a book called "the healthy lawn handbook" that I like alot.

Re: SUPER SHADY - grass growing tips?
We have a similiar issue in our back and front yards.
In the fall, were going to put down fertilizer and grass seed, so that it penetrates into the ground over the 2 seasons (fall/winter) and by spring, we should have some grass growing.
As for the mushrooms - we have the sam problems in so many shapes and sizes too. My Dad suggested we go get some LIME and spread it around the yard - he said the soil prob has too much acidity and that causes mushrooms. If they pop up in garden areas, just gt more mulch to soak p the excess water, so they don't grow.
Let me know how it goes!
