Supportive Thread for VZ Families
Hi. Let's start a supportive thread for those of us whose husbands are on strike! I know I am curious at to how others are doing and how they are dealing with the stress!
We have three kids and I work 4 days a week! We can get healthcare from my employer but it's pricey. My husband is 1106.

Re: Supportive Thread for VZ Families
My husband is 1104 also... he had to rush a procedure for himself today for fear of no insurance. I work part time, and dont have the option of health insurance so Im not quite sure what we are going to do. Im going to call my mortgage company tomorrow and see what my options are, should it come down to it.

Did you talk to HR? Can they make an exception and add you to the policy? I hope it works out! Cobra is so $$! My husband is not in 1104, I made a mistake. He is 1106!

Not Verizon but I am IBEW (Local 3) and I just wanted to tell you, other unions support you guys and are behind you! I know several members and companies that have postponed/cancelled their phones because of the strike!
I pray for all affected and that you get the contract that the workers deserve!!!!

I'm not in a union, but I have some good friends who work at VZ and are affected by the strike. I fully support the unions, and what you guys are doing, and of course the families involved. I hope this doesn't last long, and that the people doing all the work to make the profits for the big-wigs get appreciated during the contract negotiations and you guys don't lose any significant benefits...

Let's keep this post going! It is scary to think of what is going to happen to 40, 000 families.

Bad union wife here....not sure of his local number.
Its just the three of us. Me, DH and DS. I just went back to work FT and luckily carry health insurance for us also.
His salary though was our main one so we are going to start feeling it soon. I pray this strike is resolved soon.
Every year after the contract I always say we need to make a strike fund but something always comes up. I wish I tried harder.
I didn't know until recently. My husband was on and off 1101 and 1106! Lol
Let's keep this post going! It is scary to think of what is going to happen to 40, 000 families.
Not sure if DH's number. I work full time and will be able to pick up my insurance that is $$$! My husband has a strike find and he had 5 weeks pay saves but when they didn't strike in the summer, I thought we were in the clear and used 1/2 for a vacation!! I'm kicking myself now. Anyway, I think we have to stay positive. Maybe they'll settle or go into mediation. The thought of my husband being sent somewhere for 2 months at a time while I work full time with 3 kids scares the crap out of me more than anything else. I don't know if I could do it.

Unfortunately not :( I work for a very large corporation -- so exceptions are not made. I also work VERY part time. lol

Re: Supportive Thread for VZ Families
Not employed by Verizon or part of a union, but just want to say that we are with you! Sanders today sent out an email urging people to sign the Verizon contract. I did and forwarded it on.
Best of luck and hopes for a quick and fair resolution!

Re: Supportive Thread for VZ Families
1106 wife here. I babysit my nephew so no chance for healthcare. That's my biggest fear in this whole thing. My sons been waiting for months to get his braces on for fear this day would come and we would be stuck with the whole bill. It's scary not know what the future holds. And my husband pointed out last night that we will have to likely go through this 3 or 4 more times before he is eligible to retire

Re: Supportive Thread for VZ Families
Ladies, have your husbands watch these fun videos for a good laugh (because we all need it). My husband was laughing his ass off the whole time and note, they did a lot wrong!
video 1
funny
3 guys try to put a ladder against a house.. funnier
If this is how it is going hopefully it won't be long before they want real work done....
