Surprised to not see a post about the tragedy at Walt Disney World, child drowning ment
I read that a child drowned yesterday at the Art of Animation resort. I imagined there might be a discussion about it, since the child is from NY (not sure where but I think it's fairly local to us). Has anyone heard about this? Praying for this family. Unbearable tragedy.

I didn't hear about this at all. Had to look it up. I am heartbroken for this family. My DD is the same age. Praying for them all.

I'm going to Disney next month and saw it posted on the Reddit Disney board but avoided reading it for a few days because I didn't want to read bad news.
The news link they shared didn't mention much honestly.

How sad :( Not the first, nor will it be the last drowning there. I don't think their lifeguards are very vigilant like you would find at Great Wolf or a waterpark like Splish Splash. That pool is HUGE also. Someone drowned at Pop Century a couple of years ago I remember. Horrific to happen on a vacation. So sad

I did my undergrad at UCF in Orlando. Also, worked at the Magic Kingdom. While I worked there, I learned about so many deaths that happened. Not only guests but cast members as well. So much is covered up!

I read about this on one of my Disney groups. I'm surprised that it didn't get more coverage. I've been to AoA and that pool is massive. I feel like they need lifeguards in the middle of the pool.

They should have more lifeguards. It's very sad. I'm not all that surprised it didn't get more coverage, Disney is very good at the PR game.

I have been wating to see updates on this story. have they identify the victim and from the stories I read it says the child got separated from his parents but nothing else. I am wondering where they already in the pool and they got separated, did this happen when life gurads on dut? again the stories I read didn't have much information.
either way its very tragic

This little boy is family to my husband. They are from NJ. They were there celebrating his 3rd birthday. I don't think any of us had much sleep last night. We all know from here that planning a Disney trips is a full time job and we all some way or another want to make it a little be more magical for our kids. What they thought would be a Magical trip turn out to be the worst nightmare of their lives.
Please have this family in your prayers. Services will be held this weekend in Manhattan and we were all told to wear white as that is the life he led.

Ugh this is my biggest fear. I too, wonder what exactly happened? Horrifying.
I am like a crazy nut about the puddle jumper. I don't let DD step foot on a pool deck without it on. Things can happen so fast.
So so tragic... i can't even imagine

Surprised to not see a post about the tragedy at Walt Disney World, child drowning ment
I am so sorry to hear about this terrible incident. I do know from experience that when small children go under, they go limp like rag dolls. They do not struggle or create waves, so might not be noticed at first.
I had to pull my DD out of a private club's small kiddie wading pool when she slipped and went down about 15' from where I was sitting on the edge with my feet in the wading pool. It was a place we had been to many times and I had thought that she was safe wading from one side of the small area to another as she had done it so many times before. I was wrong.
I was stunned that day to see that no mother or nanny near her, and there were several, moved to help her as she lay immobile and in full sight of everyone on the bottom under the water. It seemed to take forever me to get to her and pull her out - wading through 18" of water is hard to do quickly. She was very scared and spit out a lot of water, but thankfully was all right.
I pulled another child out of a pool who would have drowned after she went under and went limp also. Her mom still comes up and hugs me when we occasionally meet. And, I warned my DH that kids go limp under water, but the darling thought I was over-exaggerating ... until DD slipped off the steps of our own pool where she had been playing into the deeper water of the low end, while he was sitting right next to her. He was ashen as he jumped in to pull her out. He became an instant believer.
Again, I am so terribly sorry for this family.

Surprised to not see a post about the tragedy at Walt Disney World, child drowning ment
A very good friends child almost drowned in my pool last year. It happened in an instant and we were all in the pool. I was the one who saw it happen. Thank G-d we caught him 5 seconds after he started drowning.
Its quiet. There is not noise. There is no yelling or commotion. They JUST go under. So be VERY vigilant.
