Sushi and BFing
Is this a no-no or is it just restricted until after we deliver? TIA

I've been wondering that myself! That and whether we can have all the other no-no's - cold cuts, feta and other soft cheeses/non-pasteurized cheese, coffee etc.......

No you do not have to stay away from those while Bf'ing. Very little of what you eat actually gets into your milk. It's very different from PG "restricted" foods.
I didn't stay away from anything while Bf'ing, only alchohol, cause well, I don't drink.

Re: Sushi and BFing
I'm pretty sure we can eat it, but I did hear that eating some things do transfer to the baby....like you eating too much brocoli can give the baby gas.
Also, my cousin-in-law's newborn had blood in his stool for a few days (she is BFing) and as it turns out, the baby has a milk allergy...but he is not allergic to his mothers breast milk, he is allergic to whatever dairy she is eating and transferring through her breast milk.

Re: Sushi and BFing
Sushi is fine after delivery, just continue to avoid the high mercury fish if you can (Always a good idea!)

Re: Sushi and BFing
According to Kellymom: Yes; just make certain that you are comfortable with the source and care of the raw fish (reputable sushi bars are very careful about this). Like any raw food, sushi can carry carry parasites or a bacteria called listeria monocytogenes (see below for more on listeriosis), and some species of fish should be avoided due to mercury levels. The consensus among breastfeeding experts seems to be that eating raw-fish-sushi doesn't pose a problem for a breastfeeding baby (though it has the potential to make mom sick).
