SUVs & Gas
i'm getting my dads old bronco in a few days.
i really hate SUVs (no offense to anyone who has them) because they really polute the environment so much.
BUT i have no choice right now, its free.
my question was...... how good on gas is your SUV? is it really expensive to fill it up? basically, how long do you get on a full tank?
thanks so much!

My MDX gets about 17MPG. It takes (these days) $50 to fill it. I do about once every 2 weeks (dont drive too much, no job)

Re: SUVs & Gas
I have an 06 Envoy and get about 15-17 miles per gallon. I do a ton of local, stop and go driving, so I am sure I would do a little better if I was highway miles. It does suck with gas prices now. I paid $62 to fill my tank yesterday.

Re: SUVs & Gas
Totally depends on the SUV - considering it's an older Bronco, it'll probably get about 15 MPG and cost about $60-70 to fill up (figuring it has a 20 gallon gas tank).

Re: SUVs & Gas
yeah... it depends on the SUV. if its an older bronco, it'll probably get bad gas mileage... but, i have a new Toyota RAV4... its a smaller SUV, but its still an SUV. i get about 20-23 MPG driving all back roads (not much highway driving), and pay about $35-$40 a week to fill up... not bad at all for a larger vehicle so it totally depends... lol not all SUVs are bad

Re: SUVs & Gas
I have an ML350- I get about 22 mpg and I have a 25 gallon tank
so it costs about $75 to fill at the current prices
if you hate suvs so much- sell this one and get something else- a full size old bronco is going to be a bigger polluter then any of the SUVs we have posted

i know, i was actually considering that. suvs today are alot more environmently friendly. and i dont have a NEED for one, i was thinking of trading it/selling it for a smaller car, especially since ill have to do so much parallel parking and all.
but first things first i suppose!

Re: SUVs & Gas
you also have to consider where you will be drving it more, on the highways or locally with a lot of lights which will eat up more gas. We have a Trailblazer and it sucks down gas.

Re: SUVs & Gas
We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee (Hemi V-8) and a Ford Excursion (V-8) and both are gas guzzlers.
DH does a lot of commuting with the Jeep, so he's over $300 a week in gas. I believe he gets 13mpg with the Jeep, despite doing a lot of highway travel (the Hemi engine uses up a lot of fuel.)
Although the Excursion has sucky gas mileage (less than 9MPG), I don't go very far with it these days, so I don't go through too much gas.

Re: SUVs & Gas
An old bronco should get between 12 - 14. A newer one should get 18 -22.
eta: Our Pick-up only gets about 8 MPG

Re: SUVs & Gas
i have an 04 pathfinder. costs me about $50 to fill it up these days... and i have to refill every 2-3 days or so. i have a ridiculous commute to work and to take public transportaion would be even more ridiculous for me, so i gotta do it. and i have a job where i have to be there, on time, no matter what the weather - no excuses. i used to have a little saturn but needed the 4 wheel drive, much more reliable in my situation.
