Swaddling Question - Sorry long!

I know I don't post often but I am a lurker and all of you have been SOOOO helpful over the past few months and we are in such a bind now....

Some background, DD would not sleep in her crib and then we tried swaddling her and it was like a miracle...8 hours straight! As she is getting bigger now, she fights the swaddle and manages to get out of it at 3 a.m. most nights...but if we try to put her down unswaddled she won't sleep. It is like she wakes herself up by moving her arms etc and then stays awake. She has now learned to roll over and I realize that she cannot be swaddled anymore but don't know what to do? How did you girls transition from the swaddle? I need a full night's sleep again!

Thanks so much!

Re: Swaddling Question - Sorry long!

Ryan doesn't like the full swaddle so I swaddle his body and leave out his arms - not that that gives me more sleep, but he seems cozier.

Thanks for your responses. She just went down for a nap unswaddled so I am waiting for her to wake up. Chat Icon

Re: Swaddling Question - Sorry long!

You can go 2 different routes. You can swaddle under the arms if you would like or transition out of the swaddle all together. She will get used to it after a day or 2. If she has fallen asleep unswaddle she might wake up..but soon she will get used to it.

Re: Swaddling Question - Sorry long!

I prefer the halo (orderd the miracle blanket & waiting for it) because she can't kick her feet out.

When I swaddle her she finds a way to bring her arms up and out, so if she's happy, fine!

Re: Swaddling Question - Sorry long!

The point you are at now was where I was about 2 months ago.

It was rough! I'm not going to lie but we did the CIO method with a sleep sack.

I still rock DS to sleep after the sleep sack is on, and then put him in the crib. It took about 2 weeks for him to sleep through the night again but we are there now.

FM me if you need more help. Chat Icon

Re: Swaddling Question - Sorry long!

Thank you soooo much ladies! She slept for about a half hour today unswaddled (she usually takes a 2.5 hour nap) so she is cranky! But I just laid her in her crib unswadled to see if she may fall asleep on her own...I think we may unfortunately have to go with CIO tonight...Thanks so much for your help!
