Swim Lessons for Infant
When is an optimal age to start swimming lessons? DS will be 1 at the end of next May. Just wondering if I should wait until he is 10-11 months old in March/April, or start sooner...like this Fall/Winter?

Re: Swim Lessons for Infant
My DS is 5 months and I do Mommy and me swim classes at Safety swim. He really likes it so far. IMO, its never to early to get them used to the water.

Re: Swim Lessons for Infant
DS is starting at Saf-t-swim today.. 3 months.. It's a Mommy and Me class.. 100$ for 6 weeks. I don't "think" it is a lesson but more water play.
We plan to continue this 6 weeks on 6 weeks off for the winter so that he is pool ready for next summer. My Mom has a pool that everybody spends a ton of time in and want him to like the water and have a healthy respect of it so we don't have issuses next summer.
They give free individual lessons for babies too.. under 6 or 9 months.. I can't remember. But, we aren't under an illusion that he will learn to swim or be safer because of these classes.. They are more for fun and to get him to like the pool and be happy in the water. So we aren't doing the more formalized lessons.. We are just sticking with the Mommy and Me class.

I think you start with Cuddles and Strokes and then move onto Mommy and Me down under and then to indiv. lessons.

Re: Swim Lessons for Infant
DD is 20 months...she's started her class yesterday at Saf-T-Swim. There were younger babies there. The class focuses on water safety....how to get babies to spit out water, pull themselves out, and float on their backs. In addition they learn how to kick and paddle. I thought it was really good for her and I wish I started it sooner.

107$ for 6 weeks. Pretty reasonable.
