Switched to a better food and now my puppy has diarrhea, any suggestions??
When I got my puppy, the breeder was feeding her Pro-Plan puppy (Purina). We bought a bag when we got home, and she was doing fine. I was told by a few people that I should switch to Wellness, since it is a high quality dog food and is better for her. So I went and bought a bag and started mixing the two for a few days. She has now been on Wellness only for about 2 Weeks. Ever since then she has had such loose stool. Its not normal at all!! She has been to the vet since then and her stool was tested. She is healthy!! The Vet told me to put a little rice in her food, so I have been doing that, and it is improving a little. We don't feed her any table food, so it is not that. I switch to a higher quality, pretty expensive food, and she gets sick. The vet told me that the other food was fine, and I never needed to switch. Now my question is, should I switch her back? Or should I wait it out and see what happens?

don't think you should switch back. give it a few days. If you think it's really bad and the dr. said the doggie was healthy, there is a diarrhea medicine they sell at the pet stores. And I heard that really hard dry poop is actually signs of constipation. Good luck.

Your not giving her any wet food right?
Make sure its only dry...do what you feel is best...If its been going on a few days I think I would switch again...you don't have to spend all the money, your dog could just have a sensitive stomach. I stick with Purina products, my dogs have always enjoyed them

Are you still mixing the 2 together? If so, I would only give the Wellness. Also, stick to dry food only if you are not doing that as well.
Puppies have a very sensitive digestive system, so as long as she is not sick I would try and stick to the better quality food IMO, but maybe switch to another brand.

Wellness gives my dog the runs. We can't use it. You can try to ride it out for a little while but if it doesn't work I'd go back to Purina.

That food may not agree with your pup. We have had ours on Purina One since we got him and he does great on it. So we stayed with it.

i would probably switch, my dog has a very sensitive stomach so the vet told me to give him Hill's Prescription Diet, might not be the best but my dog's stomach is much better i would go with whatever the vet recommends

She is on only Dry food, and we are only giving her Wellness. I will give it another week and then I'm switching back. The bag is half empty, so I think I should a difference already.

Her poop is liquid, it is really bad.

Wellness has a very high fat content and is known to not agree with all dogs.
We had a similar issue when we tried switching her dog food from the brand the breeder used to Innova. Not poop, but Marley threw up, got an eye infection, etc. We switched her back to her original food which agreed with her, and after a few weeks, swtiched her to Canidae. We started giving it to her as a treat. She has been on Canidae for months now and loves it.
This is a great website to review dog food.

wellness is a really good food... did u switch her foods slowly over like a 2 week pperiod?.. if not it cold just be her digestive system readusting to the new food, animals have much more sensitive stomachs when it comes to a change of diet that we do, so give it a little time or try mixing a little of the old food in it gradually weening her off if u havent already done it.

My pup couldn't tolerate this either as much as I'm for the wellness brand. We switched to solid gold hundchen flocken for puppy and she's fine.

For now add rice to her food... Don't do any more switching...
My little one had no problems with I switched her to Wellness Puppy Food.
