Switching careers and networking

I am in the early stages of transitioning into another industry that I love. I want to start getting out there on social networks but am afraid my current employer might see things. I feel like I need to start getting out there asap but cant afford to lose my job as I make the transition. Any suggestions on how to do this?

Can you create an anonymous profile related to your industry?

I personally LOVE Twitter for the networking aspect. In my industry, there is a small group of locals I've sent private messages to about job openings and vice versa. In total, I have over 350 on a list that work in my field all over the world.

I would never put my personal info on there though because I often use the site to vent about my job/the field and like you, I'm afraid my employer or a client would see, which is a total no-no.

I also don't use it that much, but what about Linked In?

Love your twitter idea and totally agree. I found my current job through a social network :)

LinkedIn is where I'd like to start but I'm afraid my boss will see a second profile. :(
