Switching dance schools?
I am considering moving dd to another studio. In the other studio you can watch your child and the doors are left open. If your child has a melt down you can go in. My experience where I currently am, they believe in seperation and all the kids are going in crying and they just close the door. Now my dd does not have seperation anxiety as shes been in daycare since 3 months old but I feel like she is in a stressful environment watching other kids crying, her wanting her mommy as well and I just dont know what to do. My question is, do you think another place would take her 1 month into their start date? Should I definitely leave where I am?

Re: Switching dance schools?
Another studio will absolutely take her. How about asking for a trial class so you can get a feel for the studio. In my experience, most, if not all, studios will do this.

Yes! Your 'mommy instinct' is always to be trusted!
I had a very negative experience with dance studios with my oldest DD. Dance - at this age especially - should be fun and comfortable, for both her and you! I think that it should not be a problem to switch at this point; it is what we did, two months in, and several studios were willing to take her.
Good luck!

Re: Switching dance schools?
I go both ways with my classes. I know there are children who will cry the whole time and refuse to do what I ask if there mommy is not there, so in those circumstances I will let the mom stay. However, I do encourage them to start breaking away. leaving class a little early, then a little earlier, etc.. until the child is comfortable being lef tat the begining of class. I do have one student whose mom and da simply drop her off crying and leave. It is slightly uncomfortable for me, but I go with it, since it's how they choose to handle it. She is getting better every week and crying for less and less time, so obviously they know how to handle their child best. As a whole, I find it distracting for my kids when their moms are there and we work towards having them just dropped off for the hour. But my kids are also older, 3-4yrs old.

Re: Switching dance schools?
Nicole, you are the perfect person to ask. I truly believe Gilly would have NEVER cried if the environment wasnt so stressful from the get go. I now feel she is so used to going in and everyone crying that...this is it...torture for her. It did get slightly better but shes not even 2 and the min she watches others cry...she cries. Also, the teacher carries her the whole class. Yes...carries her. Glad ya like my dd but why??? shes not crying but shes so used to you carrying her...OY!!!!!!

Re: Switching dance schools?
Oh no! I hope Ava crying didn't stress Gilly out I don't know why she cries when we go there, she's normally SO happy and easy going.

No, actually you werent there every time we were. It was such a combination of ALOT of girls crying. I think jen can tell ya...about 5 girls arent there anymore bc there parents were just too stressed. I mean look at last class. When Ava and Gilly were both there Ava And Gia were outside...and Gilly was inside with 2 girls. thats ridiculous when the class has over 10 girls. I think she should let it be and open the door already.
