Switching Flea & Tick Meds

I've used Frontline on Dottie for the past 3 months and it's worked great. But I've been reading that K9 Advantix comes recommended more by vets, for the mosquito control.
I live near water somewhat and there are ALWAYS mosquitos in my back yard.

My question is, do you think it will hurt her if I switch to K9 next month?

Do you have a cat??
If so, then NO, my vet said it is deadly to cats and they dont sell it because of that reason.
If the frontline is helping, then why switch and risk a chance.

I'm just afraid of the mosquitos biting her, as we have a lot of them.

I dont think so because if you have to re-apply every month, the meds from that month will be "used up" and it will be like starting over again.

I would check with the vet before I made any changes. My vet advised against anything other than Frontline, due to the fact that it is stronger towards ticks...but yours may have a different opinion or the mosquito's may change his opinion.

Re: Switching Flea & Tick Meds

I do not think you can hurt the dog. However, I am allergic to a common ingredient in flea repellants and Frontline is the only one that does not contain that ingredient or any derivative of it. This allergy is a lot more common than people realize, so I warn people of the possible issues if you are switch to another product. We take my dog to Fire Island and he hasn't had issues with mosquitos, even though they can be terrible there. My friend's chihuahua did get a tick while using Frontline but I thought maybe he was due for his next dose wihen it happened.

Re: Switching Flea & Tick Meds

Thanks everyone!
I think I'm going to keep her on the Frontline. I was afraid of the mosquitos because of the heartworm, but stupid me forgot that she's already on a monthly preventative.

I just get paranoid.
