switching from oil to gas
What do we have to do? We have the gas line to the house already (stove). We have someone to purchase the equipment from and install it. Do I need to call Natl Grid? Are there permits that need to be done before we do this? Thanks.

PSE&G is in NJ. National Grid is LI, Queens and Brooklyn.
I would contact your gas company and let them know what you want to do and see what they tell you.

Re: switching from oil to gas
We contacted someone who installed the whole system.
Yes, there are permits. The installer did everything for us.
We are in Nassau but it went in that order.
- Contacted Burner King - Signed contract with them to do the job. - They filed a permit with my township - An inspector from the town and Keyspan came to physically check location of house and how it would work out. - permit was approved. - Keyspan sent someone to do the trench and install the pipes from the road to the outside of the house (NOT hooked it up) and put in a meter. - Burner King came, installed from outside of out to inside of house. Removed old oil burner. Installed new gas burner. - Hooked up the gas - Had to wait for inspection the next day from the township to turn gas on.
It took a good month to get it all approved and scheduled. And it was a very easy job.
The actual work: 1/2 for them to dig and install pipes from street to house 1 day to install from outside to inside and removing all old system Had to wait for the next day for an inspection guy to come before gas was allowed to be turned on.
