switching health insurance?
I am really sick over this. My dh just told me he wants to switch jobs. Can you switch health insurance while you are preggo? My company could give me health insurance or his soon to be new job could BUT I thought you had to stay on the same insurance while I am pregnant. I hope to hear different. ANy info is appreciated.

Re: switching health insurance?
I changed mid pregancy with no problems. Just make sure your doctor takes the same one and the insurance office in your docs office pre certifies you with your new company.

Re: switching health insurance?
i don't know how true this is, but i have heard that some companies try to get out of covering pregnancy by categorizing it as a pre-existing condition. i don't know if this is legal or not, but just something i have heard people talk about...
my DH may (hopefully) will switch jobs right around the time is scheduled to arrive. we were all planning on switching to his current coverage post birth, but depending on what happens all is up in the air right now. i am very weary of switching to the new plans he would have available because i don't believe they are as good as what he currently has, but i have checked to make sure that my current dr.'s and pediatrician participate in the potential new groups.
i anticipate the paperwork to be quite the nightmare!

Re: switching health insurance?
I actually think it's illegal to claim pregnancy as a pre-existing condition. Don't take my word for it, but I think health insurance companies cannot do that.

Re: switching health insurance?
If you have had health insurance for a 12 month period or beyond before switching to the new company it is not a pre existing condition. Yes, it is illegal in NYS to say that pregnancy is a PEC BUT if you switch to something like Family Health Plus or Healthy NY they are allowed to say that it is a PEC and not cover you (without the year or more of prior coverage). I dont know why they get the exemption but there is an issue there you may want to look into if you have either of those policies.

Yep- HIPPA laws- protect you from having preg. as a pre-exsisting condition...
I switched during my preg.- no problems at all!
