Switzerland+France+Italy advice

Planning a trip for the second week in March (I know it'll be cold in SZ) and I'm just looking for the best advice on how to pack.

Itinerary:
Geneva, Switzerland (3.7 - 3.9) --> train
Aix-en-Provence, France (3.9 - 3.10) -> train
Northern Italy (3.10 - 3.12) -> train
Rome, Italy (3.12 - 3.16)

Also, would you get one of those big traveling back-packs (with wheels) or would you actually get a suitcase (with wheels?)

Not too much advice for clothes, but the weather is similar to NY at that time. It may be rainy as well.

If you decide to get a suitcase, get one with four wheels. It's easier to go down the train aisles with 4 wheels instead of dragging it behind you with 2 wheels.

That's exactly how I was going to pack, for New York winter, and then bring clothing that can be layered easily to adjust to the weather appropriately.

I'm just trying to see if the backpack would work better or just go with a suitcase (definitely has 4 wheels!) thank you!

Geneva is actually pretty temperate. are you planning on doing any hiking or any high mountain visiting?

I would dress for NY same time period, but if you plan on going up any mountains, to have some heavy duty protection. you need a jacket in the summer up there.

I use a rolly able to fit in the carry on suit case.

HAVE FUN.

are you going to the Chateau du Chillon?? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon too bad it will be too cold to take a swim in Lake Geneva.

I was thinking of just drinking hot chocolate and stuffing my face with chocolate, so to answer your question - nope, no hiking/mountains for me...keeping it totally "I'm a NYer in Switzerland for a second, so where's the party?"

definitely pack items that can be layered and are versitile. Black sweaters, cardigans, long sleeves. If you stick to basics you can re-wear some of the clothing in different cities. Maybe bring a few fun accessories to make each outfit different.

you must have fondue while you are there. they use this wine for the Vuilly region and it's awesome.

also, raclette! ugh. maybe even before fondue b/c it's not as popular here. raclette is awesome!
