swollen bruised bloody finger.. help!
Dh jammed his finger really bad while we were cleaning our flooded basement. the nail is all black and blue, its really swollen and its bloody under the nail and skin. its hurts him if it touches anything....
Do you think he has to go to the dr? Who would he even go to?

I would go to the doctor. If the bleeding is that bad underneath the nail, they would normally put a tiny hole in the nail to relieve the pressure and to allow the blood to drain. For now, have him ice too!

I would just go to the regular doctor... If they feel anything else might be damaged, they can always refer you guys to a specialist.

he called the regular doctor, they said they can't do it. He called Urgent Care and they they said they could, so he went there!!!

thanks! He said it does feel a little better since they drained it... definitely is back to normal size now! Still tender. They did an xray and said there was a slight hairline fracture too. But he will be just fine

I'm glad he went. DH did the same thing while working on our shed. He let it go & went the next am & by then they said it was too late to drain it. They just x-rayed it & wrapped it. They said he'd probably lose the nail. It's now about 3 weeks later & the nail is black/blue but he never lost it. He said it hurt like hell. He too went to Premier Care.
