Swollen Feet
Any tips on getting the swelling to go down? I didn't have much in the way of swollen hands and feet during my first pregnancy but this time as I'm nearing the end, my feet have blown up. I can't even put them in regular shoes anymore! I have them up in a pillow but I don't know how much it'll help. Even my toes feel like they're all swelled up

Swollen Feet
I slept with my feet up every night and put my feet up as much as possible. My feet still swelled but it wasn't that bad.
I also stayed away from salty food as much as possible

I never had swelling during either pregnancy but after labor and delivery holy crap. Drank a ton of water and kept feet elevated.

Re: Swollen Feet
I feel your pain. im 37.5 weeks and my feet have been swollen for a few weeks now. they were with my first pregnancy too, and as someone else said after delivery they got even bigger!!! I have a toddler so I am on my feet most of the day and don't get much time to rest. I notice they aren't as swollen in the mornings. I only have 1 pair of flip flops that fit my feet. cant wear anything else

holy crap is right! I remember the swelling after I gave birth the last time. that's why it kinda freaked me out getting swollen before I even get to labor & delivery!!

Re: Swollen Feet
Mine was so bad my feet and ankles looked like something out of National Geographic! Even flip flops barely fit. I drank a TON of water daily, cut back my sodium, elevated my feet like almost over my head when resting and even iced them at times. But at the end,.only giving birth helped. After I got out all the fluids they pump in you from the IV I was amazed to see my ankle bones after so many months of them being invisible! My feet actually looked freakishly skinny because I was just so used to seeing them swollen!

Make sure you're drinking a lot of water but also be careful if you have any headaches or pain in your side bc that can also be a sign of preeclampsia.
My feet have been swelling a bit towards the end of the day. It could definitely be this weather!

Re: Swollen Feet
After traveling a few weeks ago, my feet blew up to twice their original size. Couldn't fit in sneakers and they actually stretched my flip flops. It was horrifying for me. I just tried to keep off of them as much as I could - elevating them when possible! When I slept I tried to keep to my left side. Also drank more water. I don't know if any of that helped. In the end, I think it was simply getting back to my regular schedule that made the swelling go down. (The traveling was the real cause, but I was also on my feet a LOT while on vacation and was eating lots of salty yummy nonsense). Since yours isn't a traveling issue, I'm not sure what else to recommend. Hopefully some of these help. I've heard hot weather makes it worse, so maybe trying to keep cool?

Re: Swollen Feet
Like you, I didn't have swelling my first pregnancy but I had horrible swelling my second pregnancy. There isn't really much you can do aside from elevating your feet and drinking plenty of water. My feet were so bad I couldn't fit them into shoes either. I wore flip flops and Toms the entire end of my pregnancy. By the time I got into my hospital room after delivery the swelling was completely gone. You just kind of have to ride it out.
That being said, show your OB. Extreme swelling in only 1 leg or shooting pains could be a symptom of something more severe.

Re: Swollen Feet
Thanks for all of your replies! I saw my OB today for my weekly visit and she said it looked normal for this point in the pregnancy and recommended a lot if the same suggestions, elevating feet, drinking lots of fluids. But my newest "bonus symptom" has been some kind of nerve pain in my lower belly/back/thigh. The doctor thinks the baby is laying on a nerve or the weight of my uterus is on one and causing that pain. Joy... thank goodness the end is near!

This times a million. When I was pregnant with DD I didn't start to swell until about 7 months. My legs ended up like tree trunks, I had to buy shoes two sizes bigger (it was winter so no flip flops) and I had to take all my rings off. I went for a prenatal massage, took epsom salt baths, drank tons of water, and kept my feet elevated as much as possible. Also, walking - try to walk as much as you can. It wasn't until I was 34 weeks that I came down with preeclampsia, and up until then my blood pressure had been fine. But like the pp said, if you get headaches, dizziness or chest pain, call your OB immediately (the chest pain is what made me call).
ETA - compression stockings/socks also helped me a lot during the work day

Swollen Feet
I have club feet. It started happening just later in the day, after I got home from work. I figured it was because I have a desk job then stood to make dinner then it was bad. I would just keep my feet up after dinner until I went to bed. Now it's starting earlier in the day. I have a small step stool that I keep under my desk, better than nothing. I *try* to watch my salt, drink lots of water. I'm thankful it's summer and I can live in flip flops. I put on a pair of slip ons yesterday for an interview and I had to squeeze into them!
I had the nerve pain as well. OB said the same thing, depends on how the baby is laying but I also get numbness in my thighs if I stand for too long in one spot.
