Re: sympathy card for the estranged??

If its your aunt's father, isn't it your grandfather? Or is it an aunt by marriage?

And probably not, if you don't really speak to the family.

Re: sympathy card for the estranged??

yes it is my grandfather, my dads father, but to me he is not a grandfather because he was never part of MY life- its a complicated situation but my DAD still talked to him, my aunt DIDNT and my uncle did- BUT me and my brother didnt because my MOM never wanted us to have a relationship with him. He divorced my Grandma after 35 yrs of marriage because he was leading a double life for many years( a whole other family he had). He brought alot of pain and suffering to his family but my dad and uncle forgave him years later, my aunt did not.

When he passed just recently I didnt really know how to act considering I hardly knew him and what I did know of him was awful. I dont know if I should just leave it alone or send out cards to everyone.+

I don't send sympathy cards to my close family.

Re: sympathy card for the estranged??

Oh, I thought you were asking if you should send a sympathy card to your grandfather's family, not your aunt.

Honestly, I wouldn't send a card. I'd probably just call her and feel her out. See if she wants to talk about it or is upset, of course, that's if you're close to her.
