sympathy gift for loss of a father
Would you be offended to receive this gift if you just lost your father? I do not want to send flowers. Any other suggestions?

having a good friend who was there for me....and called me to check up on me. Would be a better gift to give!

Re: sympathy gift for loss of a father
I would make a charitable donation to an organization related to her father's death or something that was important to the family.
If someone gave me that when my father passed away I wouldn't know what to do with it - my first instinct would be to stuff it in a drawer or closet so I wouldn't see it.

As someone who lost a parent, i think it's a thoughtful gesture, but it would upset me wayyy too much.

Re: sympathy gift for loss of a father
It is very nice, but it's way to soon for anything that personal. Honestly when my step-father died last year I just wanted to be alone, but me friends took me out after the funeral and we talked about everything except work, and death. Flowers are very nice, but what about Edible Creations? Someone sent us some and it was awsome!! Such a nice distraction from all of the cassaroles or heat and eat's we were getting

I agree. I think any gesture at that time is thougtful. It is hard to know what the "right" thing to do it. And often there is no "right" thing.
I think the fact that you wanted to go beyond typical flowers says a lot

I agree. I think a donation in the father's memory is very special.

Re: sympathy gift for loss of a father
thanks for your advice everyone. i wound up printing out a poem and making a collage of pix of my friend with her dad. I know she'll appreciate that more. I will probably make a donation too. thanks again. VERY helpful advice...
