Table food and talking... connection?
Just wondering - does when you start table food (adult food that has to be chewed) have any connection to when a LO starts talking?
Someone is 12 mos, 6 teeth, very limited table food - they eat baby food and some mushed adult food (mashed potatoes) - not not really food - as in what the parents are having for dinner (small pieces of chicken, soft veges, pasta)...
In the ex - the LO was born 2 mos and not really making any sounds yet (mama, dada) - just started grunting. LO is developing on target physically.
I know my DS didn't really start adult table food until 11-12 mos b/c I was afraid he was going to choke. He had his explosion of words at like 2-3 days before 18 mos (I was ready to call EI).

Re: Table food and talking... connection?
My DD was slow to get teeth so naturally, I was slow to offer her table food... except she was a beast and would lunge at it.
My girlfriend who has a DD around the same age as mine - and who had all her teeth before she was a year old - told me that eating table food helps children develop the muscles in their mouths necessary to form words and not to worry so much about teeth.
I believe she heard that from her ped... is it true? I can't say but my DD has been talking up a storm for as long as I can remember. We started giving her table food around 10 months or so (right when she cut her first tooth).

Re: Table food and talking... connection?
my dd babbles constantly and says mama, dada, baba (though I don't think she really knows what they mean), and she's not on any table food (except for puffs as of Wednesday). the ped wanted us to wait until 9 mos so for the most part, we are. i tried puffs awhile back and that did not go over well at all - tried again this week and though she started out rough, she got the hang of it very quickly, and she can handle them just fine now, she just wasn't ready before. so based on that, i would say probably not, but my dd's just one kid so who knows.

Re: Table food and talking... connection?
My mom was super paranoid. I ate table food very late and not much of it. I talked super early, so for me there was no connection. DD ate table food early and talked early.

Re: Table food and talking... connection?
I don't think so. My sister and I were late talkers but we were on table food at 10m. We also both walked by 10m.
DS (a few days shy of 7m) seems to have slowed down in his language development. We don't hear babble anymore, the way we used to. He's cooing and blowing raspberries when he's not whining about his teeth. Before this he was screaming, screeching, and squealing at everything. Before that, we heard a lot of vowel consonant combinations, he even had days where he would wake up babbling mahm mahm mahm ... I melted, he did this at 4m.
As for table food, we are so there. He's so into eating. Do not dare eat in front of him, he makes these chewing motions then opens his mouth like a baby bird for a worm. If you don't give him any, he'll whine. I can't handle it, I melt and give him tiny piece of whatever I'm eating. He's great at mashing food, loves loves loves to eat!
