taco dip?
anyone know what is in the dip that you make for tortilla chips to dunk in; its like sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, and some type of meat? like a nacho dip with shredded cheese?

Re: taco dip?
I think you are talking about a 7 layer dip. The one I make is:
- Mashed avocado - Re-fried beans - Sour cream - Diced tomatoes - Shredded lettuce - Shredded Mexican style cheese - Olives
I actually leave the olives out because I don't like them but it's technically the 7th layer.
ETA- if you wanted to use meat you could take out the re-fried beans and substitute it for chopped meat with taco seasoning.

Re: taco dip?
I do one where I put a can or two (depending on the pan size) of Hormel's turkey chili with beans on the bottom layer, then a layer of cream cheese and then a layer of shredded mexican mix or cheddar cheese and bake it on 350 until the cheese is melted (or crispy if that's how you like it).
You could then, I guess add lettuce olives, salsa or whatver you want, but only AFTER baking.
Honestly, everyone loves the one I make and I don't add anyting. It's filling and yummy!

Re: taco dip?
I tend to make it up as I go depending on what I have on hand. I would start with refried beans if you want to include them ( I often leave that out), then a layer of sour cream mixed with taco seasoning, top with chop meat cooked with taco seasoning (again optional), then top with some combo of salsa, chopped tomatoes, avocado, red onion, and lastly plenty of cheese. Heat until the cheese melts.
If you like, you could include jalapenos or olives as well.

Re: taco dip?
This is a huge hit every time I make it:
Seven Layer Dip
1 1/2 pounds ground beef 1 packet taco seasoning 1 (16 ounce) can refried beans - vegetarian 4 cups shredded Cheddar-Monterey Jack cheese blend 32 oz. container sour cream 1 cup guacamole 1 16 oz. jar of salsa 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes 1/2 cup chopped green onions Cilantro for garnish
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large skillet, brown ground beef with taco seasoning packet. Set aside to drain and cool to room temperature.
Spread the beans into the bottom of a 9x13 inch serving tray. Sprinkle 2 cups of shredded cheese on top of beans. Sprinkle beef on top of cheese.
Spread sour cream slowly on top of beef. Spread guacamole on top of sour cream. Pour salsa over guacamole and spread evenly.
Sprinkle remaining shredded cheese. Sprinkle tomatoes and green onions on top. Garnish with cilantro.
Bake the dip just until the cheese melts (about 5-10 minutes).
