Taking Cipro for UTI during 2ww?
Hi Ladies,
I need some reassurance. I ovulated almost 2 weeks ago (using OPK's) and I'm due for AF any day now. Last week I developed a UTI and went to my regular doctor. He prescribed Cipro.
I asked the pharmacist if it was ok to take, and she said it was a class C drug, but to check with my ob/gyn. (Umm, there was a huge warning on the bottle not to take while pregnant or nursing.)
I called my ob/gyn over the weekend - no answer.
I called my primary care doctor back, and they basically said "I understand you're trying to get pregnant, but maybe you should hold off until the antibiotics are finished". Her tone was cold and a bit harsh. Whatever.
I was in a lot of pain and held off from taking the cipro for 36 hours because I wanted to make sure it was ok.
Now I'm concerned that it's another missed month because I had to take these antibiotics. I know I needed the medicine, there's no getting around that. But the timing sure does stink!
Has anyone else been on antibiotics during the 2ww??

When I did have an UTI over the summer, my DR gave me Macrobid. Said it was safer and he felt more comfortable in giving me that than Cipro.
Can you ask the DR to prescribe Macrobid? I wouldnt take the Cipro.

the best possible thing you can do for your soon to be baby is to take the best possible care of YOURSELF!
if the doctor cannot give you 'baby safe' medication, then honestly, I would take the medication and count myself out this month. you are in pain and don't want anything to get worse than it already is.
your child needs the healthiest environment to grow in....take care of YOU...

Unfortunately, it's too late for that. I started taking Cipro on Saturday. It's working and I feel better, but I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up for this month.
I do recall taking Macrobid in the past for UTI's. I don't know why my doctor was so crazy about Cipro this time around.
Not that I want to get another UTI, but I'll def. ask about Macrobid if I ever get one again.

I was on Cirpo a few months ago with a UTI. We weren't TTC so I didn't bring it up, but he did say do not TTC while on this medication.
Not sure if that's helpful in any way...but that's what he said

Thanks ladies.
I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up for this month and prepare myself for another month of TTC.
I do need to be in the best health possible. I'm just a bit bummed that this wont be the month for me.
