taking pg test before missed Period

This may be a really dumb question, but I was reading the PG test box and the wording got me confused. It says it is valid 5 days before missed period. So if My period is due on Sept 2nd, do I start counting back from there? So the first day that I could have tested was 5 days prior on Aug 29th?

Or should I count back from the 3rd, so the first day I should test is the 30th?

that's a bit misleading of the companies but technically not false....depends on you LP length, etc. The better way is to calculate DPO, as implantation is typically around 7-10DPO. Not many people get a good positive at or before 10 DPO...you are better off trying 12-14 DPO, but I totally understand not being able to wait. How many DPO are you now?

Re: taking pg test before missed Period

I am anti early pregnancy tests nowChat Icon I got pregnant in June (ended in m/c) and took test before missed period and it came back positive. The dangerous thing is that you don't really know when you were supposed to get AF so it's hard for the doctor to really know how far along you are...

For example I get AF anywhere from CD 27 and latest 35...i tested on CD 26 got a positive, but that's a whole week apart...and 1 week is HUGE early on..

So long winded answer is yes you can test early and yes you can find out...but if it says negative it still could be positive...but be careful! knowing early can be tricky!

Great question! I bought the 5 day early PG test today at Big Lots & didn't think about this, so thanks for asking.

thanks for the responses. I always see ppl post about doing it a certain # of days post ovulation, but I don't know exacltly which day I ovulated.

So far I have tried not to over complicate things and have just been trying to BD a lot around the time I should be ovulating. I am of the mindset that ppl have been having babies for centuries without temping, charting, opks and all of that jazz, so why complicate it.

But, sadly this mindset has not been working for us, so I think this month I will have to breakdown and buy an opk...it seems like the least complicated of the methods. Or at least the one that will work the quckest.

thanks!

You are definitely right! Women have been doing this for AGES. But women have also been getting pregnant accidentally or not getting pregnant when they want to become pregnant because they are not familiar with what their bodies are doing.

You can get pregnant without OPK's, charting, checking CM, CP, etc. But if you want to increase your chances of getting pregnant, then I think the minimum to do is to watch out for the different kinds of CM you have and make sure to BD whenever you have any, especially EWCM. That alone will increase your chances of conceiving, because without CM, the sperm can't get to the egg when you ovulate. Also, you will normally have CM (and EWCM) right before you ovulate so it's a great indicator. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

this is completly how I feel, I promised DH that I would wait a full 6 months of trying before I started charting or temptin...everyone says it will happen when it happens, We are young and healthy...how long have you been trying?

On and off for about a year...but I have to admit that some months we slacked off quite a bit. The past 3 - 4 months we have been really trying.

The first month we tried I had a chemical pregnancy and the doctor said it showed that everything was working correctly in the fertilization process so I didn't think it wouldn't be this hard!!
